Nevada-Las Vegas

Just wanting something special on a small budget...

So I'm getting married on October 11th this year in Las Vegas. We went for the biggest package at Excalibur, then heading to a Media Suite at Mandalay Bay for a "reception/after party".

I'm feeling like it may not be special enough, seeing everyone else's places and what they're planning. *sigh*

Plus, out of the 82 people we invited to the wedding, only about 35-40 are probably going to show. I know I should feel excited (and I DO!), but I'm feeling somewhat down at the moment.

But at least I have my love :)

  • We had our reception in a Vista Suite, and everyone had a great time! They complimented us on the "cocktail party" atmosphere, and we made sure to have chairs and some extra tables for everyone (we rented them).

Vegas isn't your traditional wedding location, and I don't think people expect the traditional reception at a banquet hall.

I'm sure everyone will have a great time. :)

Try not to get too bummed about declines. We actually had 100% attendance (43 guests), but we were prepared for people to say no. We knew that was a risk when we chose Vegas. I'm sure if we'd invited more people, we would have had declines. We only invited our closest friends and immediate family, and we'd cleared the location and date with them far in advance.
  • Your plans sound amazing!

And not to be cliché and cheesy, but there is nothing more special than seeing someone you care about marry the love of their life. And I assume all of those who attend really care about you guys. :)

And I think that a smaller group is way more fun and, in the end, less stressful for you. You will appreciate the intimacy.

You really can't beat having an amazing getaway plus witnessing a wedding. And it's VEGAS. Win/win/win.

  • I guess my first question for you is what do you think you're plans are lacking?  What is it about your plans that you think will not be special enough?

Yes, definitely. While we really wanted to invite our entire family and lots of friends, it was SO awesome having 40-ish people there. It was easy to keep track of everyone, and we were able to do some group photos. :)

Excalibur's chapels are gorgeous, and MB is a great resort. I think everyone will have a great time!

This is exactly why we chose Vegas as our destination!

  • I'm getting married on the same day here at the Las Vegas Country Club. Your wedding is going to be amazing and beautiful.
  • Your plans sound wonderful! I try to keep the love of the friends and family that will be there is the ultimate in atmosphere!
    Happiness is an inside job
  • Hi
We toured the vista suite and stayed at Excalibur hotel
It was beautiful (however the package worked at better/cheaper at hotel32 for my group)
Mandalay bay also has the best pool! and they have an aquarium and lots of restaurants listed
The rooms (saw vista and media) are stunning and people including chapel staf were very nice
Fear not - you will forget / you will have an amazing time and so will your guest! :)
  • Thanks everyone!! The friends and family we've invited really are special and close to us, so I know we'll be surrounded by love!

I really can't wait, the official count down is on now! <3

I understand your "dissapointment". Both of my closest friends that I "thought" would come to Vegas with us both ended up pregnant and unable to travel. We ended up with just family and 3 of my husband's friends. It turned out perfectly. I wouldn't have changed a thing. We had an at home reception 3 weeks later that all of our friends were able to attend. It was a great way to still celebrate with everyone. The most important people will be there-you and your husband to be. Remember, you two are all that matter. Everyone has different wants and needs for their wedding. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing and focus on what matters-you and your husband to be and your future live together.
  • I don't know what happened to my formatting. I really did use paragraphs...
  • Thank you mspenn!!

You're right, all that matters is that I'm marrying my best friend, whoever can make it to join us on that special day is just a bonus. I'm pretty happy with our plans, and I don't want to change anything.
