Order a designer copy from online ???

I've heard horror stories from bridal stores, has anyone ever actually ordered their dress from the overseas sites that offer designer replica dresses ? I really want a designer dress but it's just not realistic in our budget. I'm seriously thinking about ordering one from a site that makes them in china. Just wondering if anyone else has any experiences with these sites/dresses ?

  • Unless you are spending $10,000+, you would not be ordering a "designer dress".  Most bridal gowns are produced in factories, but those factories are under the supervision of the designer staff to insure standards are met.  If you order from a knock off site, there is no one monitoring quality control for you.

Most knock off sites are simply a workroom of employees (many are children) who are shown the photo of a dress, given measurements and told to reproduce the picture with whatever fabric happens to be on hand,  Odds that you will get anything like the dress you want are slim.

What is your budget?  David's Bridal manufactures their own dresses in their factories, cutting out the middle man, and offers excellent value.  Check out their website.  http://www.davidsbridal.com/Browse_Sale-Sale-Bridal-Gowns

There are also a few discount ordering sites, like Pearl's Place, that will order the authentic gown for you at a discount.  (Not Maggie Sottero)  I bought my dress, years ago, at a discontinued sample sale, off the rack.  You might consider a previously worn gown.  There are many better options than buying something, sight unseen, off a Chinese knock off website.

You can check this out for horror stories: https://www.facebook.com/BridesBeware

It's seriously a terrible idea though, and it's an awful practice. These designers have decades of expertise behind the designs they create, just for some sweatshop to knock off a counterfeit with poor quality fabrics and shoddy workmanship? Why would you want something like that?

Find a dress with a price point that is in your budget. Nobody will know the label but you. Allure has gorgeous styles under $1000. If you really want something designer, there are some incredible white evening gowns on Rent the Runway for $200-300.

Only do it if you have the money to burn. As others have stated, there are 100 bad outcomes to a single good one. And, there's little to no chance you'll be able to return it no matter what the website says.  Also, I've noticed that those who have had good outcomes, had very simple dresses with little to no lace or embelishment.

  • Don't do it. You will be so disappointed. Look for pre owned gowns or refine your tastes to be more realistic.
  • Only do it if you're comfortable with the fact that this is what you might end up with:

I bought a couple of dresses from JJs House, and the quality was just really horrible.  I only purchased them because it's impossible to find a halloween costume for someone my height, and it was cheaper than buying that much fabric outright.  A friend of mine is taking them apart as we speak.
