NJ Area -- Afternoon Wedding w/ After Party

I am considering the possibility of an afternoon wedding. Ceremony at 11, Cocktail hour at 12, reception 1-5. Since there are a good amount of people traveling from out of town, I am wondering if it is acceptable to hold an afternoon wedding as long as I provide an after party. We (fiance) and I were thinking of renting out a local bar/club/back room and providing a 3-4 hour per person open bar. 

I am looking for guidance from anyone who has done something like this before, or who understands wedding etiquette a little more than I do.. all my weddings have been on Saturday evenings.

    I think your plans sound lovely and sufficient without the after party. If you want to provide more, go for it! I'd just make sure there are some munchies if you're going to be hosting an open bar at the after party.

    You can have your wedding and reception any time of day. :) If you look around a bit, you'll see many brides have planned brunch/lunch receptions.

    This sounds just fine.  You are even going above and beyond by providing the after party on your dime.  

    And yeah, I'd order some snack trays too because the reception + after party is a long time to be drinking, and people will get hungry.  I feel like once you provide the open bar, you've made yourself the host of the after party at that point.  So at least some food should be on you guys.

    You are under no obligation to host an evening event. You don't need to host an after party. And quite honestly, if you do, it might seem like a marathon of events that will tire people out too much.

    Your plan of an afternoon wedding and reception sounds perfect. Have fun!

    Thank you very much for all of your input! I might add that my fiance and well as my friends, are marathon drinkers, we tend to do a lot of day into night events just on weekends. Our after party would be mainly for our friends.. probably for about 50 people as opposed to the 200+ we have on our guest list.
