  It's rude to replace a bridesmaid.

  
  

  It's rude to the person you are replacing - saying they are replaceable. And it's rude to the person you ask to stand in her place since you are telling her she's only worth the honor since someone else declined.
  

  
  

  Bridesmaid is an honor not a role to fill or a job. Sides do not need to be even.

  My thoughts are that you shouldn't have replaced her because doing so is not only a slap in the face to the person who stepped down but also to the person who is the replacement.

  
  

  Oh and dresses can be altered.  Two weeks is more then enough time to have it altered and you should pay for the alterations.

  Putting aside the substitution of people, which is always going to be a bit awkward, I was an MOH where I wore a long navy gown and the other girls wore short navy gowns. The bride didn't like the way I looked in any of the shorter options. Looked totally fine.

  Gawd, really?  I mean, I don't like how I look in shorter dresses, but if someone else were going to say THEY didn't like how I looked in a shorter dress, I'd probably insist on it.  Or, actually, I'd probably call her a bitch, drop out as MOH, and never speak to her again.

  Lol at the strong reactions. I never even thought about it as insulting, honestly.  The bride is my very dear and sweet sister and had a lot of difficulty picking out BM dresses. I went with her on three separate occasions (we live a plane ride apart, so this was a lot of trips over a lot of times) and picked out dresses that she let the other girls veto. Finally she picked a brand and a fabric and a length and we all went shopping together (shopping trip four for me). The other girls all found something that worked (there were a lot of different options) but none looked all that good on my weird shaped body. I'm big on top small on bottom and have trouble fitting into dresses with my rib cage. I picked one of the options I thought would be fine. She didn't say, Gawd, you look ugly in that, she just had them pull out a long chiffon dress she thought would look better. It did look better, honestly, than the other shorter options so it was fine.

  Well, that's definitely less offensive.  Like I said, I definitely prefer long dresses to short dresses.  So if I tried on short dresses and my sister/friend was all, "well, that is okay, but what about this?" I'd be thrilled to wear a long dress.  (And stand out a little from the rest of the BMs, because I'm a bit of an AW.)
