I'm sure this has been asked before, and I've searched and keep getting big dishes or BBQ options. We're leaning towards an in-suite cocktail type option with tapas from Firefly and a dessert bar - mainly a dessert bar following the ceremony.

I'm wondering how many pieces of from Firefly should we get? Especially if there is going to be a 200 (ish) piece dessert bar. I've googled and found some people saying 12 pieces of apps per person and some saying 4-6. The party will be held at roughly 3pm, so not quite dinner time if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Re: Food question - in suite

  • I don't have an answer for you but the person who responded to my inquiry at Firefly was more than willing to help with deciding how much to order of everything based on our guest count. Have you spoken with anyone there yet? I think it really helps to get the opinion of someone with the caterer you choose since they know best what their serving sizes and pieces really look like...

(We decided to go with a restaurant so I don't have any specific tips. :) )

  • We are going to do a cocktails and snacks with wedding cake right after our in-suite ceremony, so I would be interested in knowing what you decide. We are having our ceremony at 2, and snacking/cocktailing until dinner at about 6 or so. We just want enough food to hold people over until dinner, so we aren't looking to replace a meal.
  • @destinationtake2 They've been super helpful and in the reply I was told 1-3 pieces per person (without them knowing about the dessert bar). Sort of confusing because I've now heard 1-3 pp, 4-6 pp, and 12 pp. That's a HUGE range - and price difference.

@aggiespartan I think I'm going to end up doing around 3-5 pieces pp for the tapas and then about 4 pieces pp for dessert.
  • are you going to have a cake too or just a dessert bar?
  • Just dessert bar. There will be cake pops as one of the options in the dessert bar, but no actual 'cutting of the cake' going on.

How many hours are they going to be lounging around?

If I'm lounging around for an hour 1-3 pieces might do it, if I'm there for 2-4 hours...

and then if there's alcohol, food requirements goes up again.
  • 1-2 hours with just beer and champagne/signature cocktail for that. Then DDB tour and come back to suite and have an 'after party' where we'll hire a bartender for open bar (not catering the after party).
  • If I were you, I might do heavier apps then, since there will be no meal, unless you are expecting people to go have dinner on their own in between the tour and the after party.
  • or get some cheaper food for the after party, like pizzas from 5fifty (I think you are Aria right?).
  • @aggiespartan Yup! We're at Aria. We've thought about that too! Most people are just excited that we're hosting anything at all afterwords since we're all locals (the only person traveling is my mom) and it's a vow renewal not a full wedding. Just SO many options. Lol.

    Thanks!
  • Gotcha.  That makes it a little different.  I have to admit though, I'm super excited about our pizza party the night before.  We are planning on getting some macarons from Bouchon Bakery too.
  • Oh I was SUPER excited for five50 pizza and was set to have the dinner there, but was told they can't hold 50 people.
  • We are going to have someone run down and pick up the pizzas and bring them back to the suite.  It is very close to the sky suites elevator, so it should be pretty easy.

4-6 pieces sounds right then.  Personally, 1-3 is way too little and 12 seems obscenely too much, esp. with dessert.

I assume we're talking passed hors d'oeuvres style.
