Wondering....

Am I starting things too early for my wedding day?  I have my hair appointment at 9:30 am, and makeup artist is to arrive at the hotel around 12pm…we plan on taking all pictures before the ceremony, which starts at 6pm.  Am I starting too early??  What do you think?

  • I personally think so. My hair and make-up is being done at 8:30am..:p and my wedding ceremony is at 10:30am..lol I'd be too worried about frazzling it in that amount of time!

How long did your stylists say your hair and makeup would take? I'm a makeup artist and we generally tell all brides an hour for each. I'd be worried about cutting it very close!

  • For me, my hair is going to take about 1.5 hours; my makeup at the trial took about 1 hour...

Does your hair fall out of styles easily? I know if I got my hair done that early, the curls and whatnot would probably fall out and have tons of fly-aways by then, but my hair is very fine and doesn't hold a style well. That would really be my only concern. I would try to work backwards from your ceremony start time to see when you NEED your hair and makeup done by and go off of that. Also, if you are doubting yourself, just ask your stylist and makeup artist or your photographer!

So I'm assuming you're doing makeup before hair? If possible, I would try to do it the other way around. Once your makeup is done, you don't want anyone spraying product and water around your face and risking ruining your makeup. Also, you'll need to leave time to get dresses, take some getting ready shots and photos with bridesmaids or family and get prepared for the processional. And always leave extra time to allow for incidentals (stylist arriving late, going over allotted time limit, etc.)

Hair is before makeup, actually.  My hair appt is at 9:30 am (10 minute drive from the hotel to the salon), make up is at 11am at the hotel; get dressed, get ready, etc...and pictures start btw 2-3.

  • Oh, sorry Rachael, I got confused by who I was responding to! Probably shouldn't be writing on here while at work..haha

I would listen to what your stylist says regarding your hair. It would just be crappy if you had your hair done and then didn't look picture perfect for your pictures and ceremony, but I'm sure your stylist will know how to advise you!

Our ceremony is at 6:30 pm and we are taking all of our pictures before hand as well.  We are starting to get our hair and makeup done at the salon at 9:30 am.  We have to be out of the salon by 1 pm and back to my moms house for 2pm.  Our pictures start at 3 and we have an hour drive to the venue.  So your time schedule is pretty on point with mine too.  It's always good to leave some time for cushion too.  I am hoping to be done at the salon by 12:30 so we have some time to eat lunch at my moms and just relax for a hot minute before the limo picks us up.

  • My ceremony is at 5:30PM and the hair and makeup people are coming ot my mom's house at 9AM to do my 8 BM's, my mom, and myself.  Since there are so many of us, it will take a while, but they said we need to be absolutely ready an hour before we want to leave (just in case).  I am leaving my house at 3:15ish to drive to the reception/ceremony site and can be there by 4:15ish.  Then when we get there we will take some pictures.

  • Ceremony is at 6pm for me, not taking pics beforehand, maybe a just a few bridesmaid pics. We have 8 people getting hair and makeup done. 1 MUA and 2 hair stylists. We have to start makeup at 10am and hair won't need to start until 12:30pm.

  • Since you are going to a salon, I don't think you are starting early. We are starting hair and make up at the hotel at 12, so I think you are on target. I talked to my photographer and he really helped me figure out a timeline for the day. Not sure if you did this already, but it's definitely helpful!!

  • Yea, we also have 10 bm, 2 jr and 1 flower girl...so I think I am on schedule...thanks for the input girls.

  • Hmm.. Our wedding is at 6:15 PM (weird time, I know) and we have pictures starting at 4:30. We have hair/make up appointment starting at 11 am at a salon because we're going to do everybody's hair so we need time. May be a bit early but it'll be nice to be able to just chill, have some mimosas, and not have to rush.

About 40 minutes for each - but she's already going to be on location before then anyway - doing my mom's hair and make-up..8:30 is just a tentative start time.

  • Our ceremony starts at 5 pm and I'm starting hair and makeup at 12:30. I thought that was a little early but it is better to have a little leeway just in case. We're having 9 girls get their hair done and 4 are getting their makeup done.

  • My best friend's wedding was at 7pm and we started the whole hair and makeup process at 9am. By the time everyone was done it was noon.  We went out to lunch and then we each went on our own to relax a bit before we had to be at the church at 4pm to get ready for pictures at 5pm.

  • Our appointments start at 9am for our 430 ceremony.

  • My appointments start at 830am and we have to ready at 1pm.

We have 12 girls getting makeup and 11 getting hair, but 3 of those are just blowouts. I have 2 MUAs and 3 Hair stylists. 45 min for makeup for each girl, not sure about hair because I'm still waiting for the breakdown from my stylist.

    Hope that helps :)

  • It sounds fine to me.  We're getting hair done starting at 9am...ceremony is at 4:30 and we're getting as many pictures done as possibly before the ceremony without me & FI in them together of course (no first look)...pictures are starting around 1 or 2...still trying to figure all that out!
  • We are starting around 10-10:30 to be out of the salon by 2:30-3 to get pics starting around 3:30pm.  We have our ceremony at 5:30pm but I want pics with my girls beforehand so they can enjoy cocktail hour for the most part.  We have 8 girls getting hair done and 7 getting makeup done.  I'd rather have leeway and be able to sit and relax in the afternoon than being frazzeled that we won't be done in time.

  • Michelle, just wondering, when will you get dressed if you are leaving the salon ~30-60 mins before pictures? Will you already be dressed at the salon?
