we are moving in together

Just found an amazing apartment and we are going to be moving in together. I am nervous as hell. GAH! I know that its going to be okay, but I still am thinking worst case scenario.

  • Umm. .. you would do that after youre married anyways? Look at it this way, you'll be able to figure out all of your quirks prior to the wedding and will be able to work out any issues that may arrise. This will pretty much, hopefully reduce your stress / aniexty coming up to your wedding. :)

  • you are fine! H and I got an apartment together about 2 months before our wedding, it is so much fun to decorate and have your own space!

what is the worst case scenario?
  • He hates his job. I am afraid that he is going to up and quit. This is the first time that I have lived some place that I wouldn't be able to afford on my own. I am finishing school this semester so I am relying on him to pay like 70 percent of the rent (which he is more then willing to do). I am just scared becasue I have never had to rely on anyone, ever. I have no worries about us. I am excited to cook his meals and do his laundry. He is excited to be the 'bread winner.' lol.

Living together is a lot of learning and hard work. You have to both really put your best foot forward and work together so there is no resentment about money or housework, etc. I totally am an advocate of living together before engagement/marriage, so there are no surprises afterward. I know a couple that just started living together once they were engaged and are struggling through their differences while planning their wedding.

I am not saying this is how it will be for you. But if you have doubts, work them out before the wedding. When my FI and I moved in together 3 years before we were engaged, we did it because we just wanted to be together day and night. I'm not going to say it was easy, because it wasn't, but we were both willing to do what it took to make each other happy financially and division of chores-wise. But I am very glad we didn't have to deal with all of that during the engagement or after the wedding. It isn't always the fairytale you imagine.

Good luck. With compromise and love, it will be just fine! There is no need to think worse-case scenerio. It would be better to find out now than after you're legally married.

<div>Hopefully he is smart enough to rough it out until he finds something else. I hate my job, but I have the luxury of being able to look for and interview for jobs while I am still employed. I also have the luxury of holding out until I truly find something better. I would NEVER quit my job without something lined up because I wouldn't want to be a financial burden on FI. We're about to buy a house and I know that this means I absolutely need to stick it out until I find something that pays as well, and that is just fine with me.</div><div>
</div><div>If he quits his job knowing that you guys can't afford the apartment, he's selfish. I hope that your FI isn't like that.</div>
  • I'm so glad I live with FI right now.I know how he is and vice versa. and like futurepivko said, you get to decorate!!!
  • You'll like cooking for him and doing his laundry for a few months! lol. I still like to do those things for my FI sometimes, but it gets tiring working full time and taking care of yourself and another person who is also GROWN, haha. Good luck to you guys!

  • I think I will like it for more then a few months. I have always wanted to be a 1950's house wife :-) Everyone laughs when I say a womens place is in the kitchen...but I beileve that is true for me. My FI says that his plan is to get me in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant as soon as we are married :-)

Ummm. .  . . I'm honestly not sure how I would take it, if my husband said that to me.
