ETA: I hit enter and it posted with nothing. I promise, not a DD.

Hey guys, We've all seen silent auctions. What kinds of prizes do you like to see and hope to win? So far most people I've talked to like a lottery tree, a XXX prize, hotel stays and restaurant gift cards.

Does anyone have anything else to add?

  • Booze
    Spa gift certificates
  • Haha ok! You had me confused there. I agree with @ClimbingBrideNY about the spa gift certificates. I love that kind of stuff!

What about gift cards to movies, a local winery tour, or even a personal chef to come into your home and make dinner?

  • I went to a fundraiser last night, so I'm primed for this!

    Things I liked:
    - sporting event tickets
    - special event tickets (musicals, opera, symphony)
    - gift certificates to various places (restaurants, spas, galleries, etc.)
    - art
    - cabin/second home (we "won" a week at this guy's place in Aspen)
    - wine tours
    - brewery tours
    - gift baskets (food, spa, etc.)
    - cooking class certificate
    - homemade stuff (not like a kid's macaroni art... some lady had a gorgeous hand knit quilt that fetched a pretty penny)
    - golf outings

That's all I can remember right now. What's your audience?

  • Golf stuff goes like crazy every year around here.  We have annual silent auction and I have seen some killer gift baskets put together around movie themes, chocolate theme, golf theme, spa theme, italian food theme, etc.
  • We had a couple in law school. My favorite things were similar to everyone else so far, but for the sporting event tickets, I really only get excited if they are super good seats.

One kind of unique idea I liked was offering experiences. For example, one of our professors was a licensed pilot, so the auction prize was having him fly you and a guest in a private plane over the Grand Canyon.

  • In Manitoba we do things called "socials" as a fundraiser for many things - weddings, cancer research, anything that you want to raise funds for.

We're holding this social in memory of a friend of ours who died of brain cancer for cancer research.

It's essentially a big party with lots of drinking and dancing.

    Audience : 18 - 75, but mostly 20 - 50
  • I thought this said Pizza's and I got super excited and then it wasn't pizzas, so may I suggest Pizza being a prize?

  • We give people pizza for free around 10 PM. No need to silent auction it :P
