New iPhone

I got up at 1:45 this morning to order my new phone (the lock button on my 5 works maybe 30% of the time so to avoid becoming homicidal, I need a new one ASAP).  What a cluster...the Apple Store on my phone had no availability, on my browser it kept saying they were down...finally I got through on AT&T, and it was SO SLOW....I got a confirmation page and they said they would email me the details...well at 6:15 when I got up for real - no email, and the AT&T page still showed I had an upgrade available...so I ordered again.  Then the email for the FIRST order came through 5 mins later....followed by the email for the second one - UGH.  Luckily it was easy to cancel that duplicate order.

AT&T is so unorganized...I'm going on FI's family plan (my contract expires Sunday), and they told him yesterday that I should order my new phone and lock in a new 2-year, then they can transfer my account over to his.  I have my doubts about that, but worse case scenario is I continue paying for my phone as usual.  Hopefully the AT&T person wasn't full of it, it would be nice to consolidate some stuff, plus I'll get more data on his plan than I do mine.  :D

Re: New iPhone

  • Not sure when you got your iPhone 5, but they recently recalled a bunch of batteries from the earliest ones released.  Mine is working much better now that it has been replaced.  (It's actually freaking me out, I used to have to charge my battery on the drive home from work so it didn't die before bed.  Now It's at 75% battery at the end of the day with no charge.  I got so used to charging it, it is weird not to have to do so.)

  • I checked mine and the serial number wasn't one that was included.  I'm so used to charging mine all the time too!

  • Not sure where you live exactly, but it might be better to go into the AT&T store on the 19th. I got my iPhone 5 the day it came out. I waited on a line that was no longer than 20 minutes, and my phone was ready to go within the half hour. I'm also in NYC, and this was in a midtown location, so you would expect huge crowds. I went on my way to work, a bit earlier, just in case the lines were ridiculous, in which case I would just wait.

My friend pre ordered the 5 and didn't get it until a month later. I'm planning on going to the AT&T store in Atlantic City where I will be next friday and hope I'm as lucky, if not I guess I'll have to wait. I tried to see if my phone qualified for the battery thing but it did not.

  • I think I got mine a couple weeks after the initial launch when I got the 5.  I'm okay with waiting a couple more weeks, but it would be nice to have before my girls' weekend in FL the first week of October!

  • I switched from AT&T onto Fi's plan on T-Mobile.

Pro-tip: they tried to charge me cancelation fees for switching over my number. I told them "but I don't want to cancel my account, I just want to move my number." they said "well with no number we close the account." So I told them "well that's your choice. Not mine. If you wish to cancel my account then that's fine, but since I'm not making the decision I won't pay the cancellation fees." And it was all good!
  • Surprisingly enough, my new phone should be here on launch day after all.  I guess I got in and pre-ordered early enough to catch the first shipment out.  It'll be delivered to the house on Friday!
