What Does this Mean?!! (One of City Hall's rules)

"You must provide proof of $2,000,000 General Liability Insurance and City of Beverly Hills must be listed as an additional insured on the policy."

Help! I'm a little freaked out, I don't think I have this, but I don't know what it is exactly! And when city halls say "resident" do they mean of that city or the state?

You need to get event insurance and list the City as additionally insured.  Talk to your home/auto/renter's insurance agent and he can give you a quote.

Edited because words are hard ;)

  • I would assume it means event insurance. I find it kind of odd that city hall requires it though. But just call your homeowners and see what they can do.
  • Great! Thank you so much for your help @WildMagelet and @misshart00 ! :)

By the way, @WildMagelet, did you happen to get the idea for your account name from one of Tamora Pierce's books?
  • We have to do this. The place we're renting has a third-party event rental setup to get it from. I think it's going to run us about $500-$600.

You can probably look up 'venue name event liability insurance' or something and maaaaybe find a company that already has all their information set up that you can get a quote from.

    Hello!

I don't know how knowledgeable you are about insurance, but the document you will need to provide is called a Certificate of Insurance (or COI). It is a document that your insurance company will need to write up for you to send to the city. The additional insured means that the city (employees) will be covered by your policy should any mishaps happen to a guest, vendor, etc. at your wedding and files a lawsuit against the city.

As far as the coverage goes... a general liability policy seems a little odd for a wedding, unless maybe your holding it on city property? (like a park?).... I would contact the city for elaboration. I hope this helps in the small way I can... I work in insurance.

  • @JacqC - Yes!  I may or may not own practically everything she's had published...  She's going to be at a fan event a few hours from me next month and I realllllly want to drive down so I can meet her.
