fiancee asks me if inviting guests after dinner is ok??????

ok, sooooo we both have a pretty decently large family and between inviting family and friends we were trying to keep our number at most at 200. So in order to get everyone that we want there we unfortunately had to invite some as guests as single. He plays softball with some of these guys so he wanted them to be able to invite them all instead it would again be a huge chunk if we invited everyone with a guest. We invited the ones that we know had girlfriends for long term and the ones we didn't know, or we knew played the field a lot or had recently broken up with recently we invited as single ones. We keep getting responds back from them adding on guests and we don't know what to do but unfortunately tell them they were unfortunately invited as one. Now my fiancée feels thinks he had a great idea, and asked me if we can invite their girls (whomever they are) for after dinner time. I wasn't ready for that question and didn't know what to say. It is weird to me that after dinner a bunch of girls will show up that I don't even know and is that even proper etiquette?? PLEASE HELP!

Re: fiancee asks me if inviting guests after dinner is ok??????

  • Agree with flantastic.  If the guest has a significant other (wife, fiancee, girlfriend of 2 weeks), she should be invited as well.

Please don't ask anyone to come after the dinner.  That would be tacky.
  • PPs are right.  You need to invite all significant others regardless of how long they've been together, and you can't invite people to come to only part of an event.

And honestly, I'd have to question your FI's level of intelligence about women (or people in general).  Does he really think a guy is going to go to a wedding and tell his girlfriend that she can't come to dinner but she can come by later without consequences?  No person in her right mind would put up with that from a date.

No.  This is called having a tiered reception.  It is one of the rudest things you can do!
