wedding flowers for centerpieces

I am a diy wedding girl, having a 60 person wedding on mountain top Hawaii, surprising i love roses and peonies but they don't grown well in Hawaii. Has anyone ordered wedding flowers from the 1800 flowers, they seem to have may positive reviews but not totally convinced if its a good idea? trying to stay within budget or close to it, any suggestions.. my friend ordered theirs through Costco but they delivered them to the wrong island what a nightmare!! their tables were bare and had no flowers for the tables wedding was for 400 people, so no costco suggestions please

Re: wedding flowers for centerpieces

  • The only person I knew who used them was my FSIL. She got the flowers the day before the wedding and none of them were in bloom...all closed up. She ended up running to Whole Foods to get bunches of flowers instead.

They did give her a full refund, but it was a mess.
  • wow ok thanks for the tip!!

  • When is your wedding? Peonies are a very seasonal flower and you only have a month to a month a half time frame to get them (May-June) before they get really small and pitiful and so not worth the money. As for the PP story, this is why you get your flowers delivered to you about 3-4 days prior to your wedding. This will give you time to process them appropriately and allow the flowers to drink up the water and open a bit.

  • I don't think you'd have a problem with roses but peonies are seasonal and I doubt they'd look tip top after being shipped to Hawaii. I would pick something you can get locally and pair it with roses. Talk to a local florist - I bet they get the peony question a lot and will have suggestions on alternatives.

  • I would also like to add that you are getting married in Hawaii.  The land of amazing and beautiful tropical flowers.  Why not use what is available on the island which will most likely be a hell of a lot cheaper then shipping flowers in.

  • Yes, our wedding is June 1st.  Thank you for all the good advise.  Yes Hawaii is amazing but I'm not a tropical flower lover, I know its strange.  On the mountain venues, where we have our wedding set to take place it's actually chilly and not the tropical  feel most people think of, lots of cattle ranches and such..I will make sure the flowers get here 3 days before and order from global roses =)
  • How did your flowers turn out? I also live in Hawaii and am considering ordering in bulk online. Prices are so high here locally for flowers! Any suggestions from your DIY experience and with shipping to Hawaii?
