Officiant Gift

I'm not sure if this is the right board to post on, but one of my FI's good friends will be officiating our wedding, which I am really excited about.

So, my question is - do we get him a gift like we would with the members of the bridal party?  If so, what are some good suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Officiant Gift

  • A gift card would be great anything that personalizes a gift makes it hat much more special. I feel giving a gift it a great gesture,
  • We gave our officiant a starbucks g/c because he always had one at our meetings and mentioned several times that Starbucks was 'his special time' for studying the word, kind of his own time away from kids and wife, which sometimes is needed.  So we thought it would be appropriate to give him some more 'studying' time :o)

  • I didn't know you were supposed to give a vendor (someone you are paying to be part of your day) a gift? I hope it doesn't sound tacky, but I can understand giving the bridal party gifts but not the officiant. I guess we could give them a gift card though. I don't know the woman so IDK what I would give her though.

The officiant isn't a regular vendor in the OP's case.  It is her FI's good friend, it doesn't sound like she is paying him.  I am actually in this exact same situation, so I am eager to hear any ideas.  Paying for his hotel would be nice.
  • We are gifting our officiant/good friend the same gift as the groomsmen (a private loge at an NFL game).

It's good form to start a new thread rather than bumping one that a year or more old as the original posters will not around to answer your questions :)

We paid for both nights of the hotel for our officiant and since he refused to take any payment, we also got hime a really nice gift that we knew he'd like - we picked it out as if it was a birthday gift, but spent more than we would on a bday gift for our friend.
