Help me think through photography

So at first I didn't think the photography wasn't that important to me but apparently it is now lol. Here are my 3 options:

1. We won a package with a photographer here in Phoenix. She did ok with our engagement photos (we liked about half of them). We will only have to pay for her hotel stay and gas to Vegas: http://kpphotoaz.com/

2. Local photographer Gin & Sake. Great style..not 100% what we are looking for but close enough and they are local: http://ginandsake.com/

3. PERFECT photographer Angelea Photogrpahy. She lives in Nashville now so we would have to fly her in and pay for hotel..plus the package: http://www.angeleaphotography.com/

What are some things I should consider when choosing? What are the pros/cons of local vs. non-local? What am I not thinking about!

  • You only get married once, well that's how the saying goes lol.  I'd go with the perfect photogrpher; we love our wedding pics and they only become more important the longer it's been since wedding day.

  • @hmgiffor - we had the same dilemma choosing our photographer. At the end of the day, we made the decision based on who we felt the most comfortable with - we did an shoot prior and we connected with our photographer. Have you tried facetiming with them? Did you feel a connection?
  • Wow @hmgiffor‌ the PERFECT photographer is amazing!! If you can afford that, I would go with it! Its all about making choices....you may have to cut somewhere else. I am blown away by their style. Only thing that would concern me about it... A. I dont see a ton of wedding pics on their site. B. not beeing a local, theyre not going to have as much insight on shot locales, timing and getting from point a tob

  • I would guess that not being local would be a massive down side.... a local would know all the really cute and unique places to shoot... unless they have done other weddings there? Or you just want the basic locations? Gin & Sake's photos are great...
  • I think the perfect photographer option has a bit different post-production than gin and sake, I'm sure if you show the images to them they'll be able to match it. Also I think a local is beter than someone out of town, and Angelea doesn't say she does weddings, you should definitely ask her for her wedding portfolio to be sure you like her wedding style.

  • Related photography question...when are you doing most of your photos - before or after the ceremony?  We are going to try to do them after I think but I worry about the pictures taking longer than we anticipate.  We don't want to leave our guests hanging out alone for a long time.
  • If money/etc. were no objects, which photographer would you hire?

I find that concept useful to me in making decisions sometimes, Money/some other things skew the results of a decision and IMO should not be considered in the equation when choosing many things in life for personal satisfaction/happiness.

I suggest picking a local. They are going to know all the best places to shoot opposed to someone not from the area. Also they would more than likely be more efficient since they have been in the area, that venue, know the lighting..etc. Sense your paying for the time a local might benefit you the best,

  • A local photographer has a big advantage in that they've likely shot in the location before, OR can go scope it out before your big day to pick some great spots. We are using Kristen at KMH Photography and have really enjoyed working with her so far, and we felt her prices were fair and we love her style. Might be worth a look!

As PPs have said if you can afford your "perfect" photographer then go for it! Otherwise I am sure you can find something you love here in Vegas, there are a lot of good ones!

  • Thanks everyone! I will look into the other local photographers...I think I will share with them some of Angelea's photos so they can see the style I'm looking for to see if they are able to do something similar.

@aggiespartan...we are doing the majority of our photos before. I really want to do our first look at the Neon Museum. We will likely do just a few nightime photos after the ceremony since it is at 6pm.

  • @hmgiffor Here is another photographer.   http://gabyjphotography.com  I like her work, just not in the budget.
  • Might want to check these guys out. They're not local but are in Vegas often: http://imaginephotoaz.com/
