Best All-Inclusive resort??

So - BF and I decided to go on vacation in the spring! yay!!! (I've been pushing for this, I 'need' it)

Its pretty much a - "we have $X to spend, you do the research, make it happen, and we will do it" from BF.

So I've been looking a lot at the Riu hotels - they seem reasonable, and I have a few friends who have used them so I have good personal recommendations.

We/I basically want somewhere warm and pretty, that I can veg out for a week, and ideally not have to worry about $$ once I get there (hence the desire for all-inclusive).

Also - we are slightly conscious about our $$ . . . . we don't wanna break the bank, but we have a little leeway.

If you ladies have any input or recommendations please let me know!!!

Re: Best All-Inclusive resort??

  • Which destinations are you considering? There are so many different AIs and they all have pros and cons.

Riu is more middle of the road and are mostly not adults only.

  • I am getting married at a Sandals resort in May. Sandals resorts are all-inclusive and adults only. The resorts in Jamaica are typically cheaper and have the best flight pricing.

  • I was looking a lot at the Dominican Republic ones - we are OK that they are not adults only.

I mentioned Jamaica and BF says no - "Its too hot there" according to he-who-has-never-been. I don't think the dominican will be much cooler personally (maybe I'm wrong)

Honestly - as far as location - we are fairly open.

  • FI and I went on vacation this summer to the Hard Rock Riviera Maya, and it was gorgeous. FMIL does destination weddings and she gave me a book of their wedding packages and they were gorgeous, if we could have had a destination wedding we would have probably gone there.

    That place looks beautiful!

    I'm gonna have to make a spreadsheet . . . . . . hahaha

  • I did Breathless in the DR for my honeymoon. It was nice but it was also my first all inclusive out of the country so I have nothing to compare it too. We considered the RUI and actually went there while we were in DR. The lobby was nice haha but it wasn't adults only so we didn't pick it. That was a big deal to us.
  • The Dominican has a ton of AIs! Hard Rock, Secrets, Dreams, Now, Excellence, Iberostar, Majestic are all great options.

The Dominican will be just as hot as Jamaica as well!

  • I'm currently on my honeymoon right now at Swept Away in Jamaica. Its frigen amazing. And unlike a lot of resorts this place includes all water sports. Last night we took the sunset cruise and today were going to wake board and tomorrow glass bottom boat tour!

  • I've heard from multiple people the that Excellence resorts are fantastic.
  • I went to the Excellence in DR for my honeymoon. Loved it. The beach was beautiful! I will say we were a little underwhelmed by the restaurants at the resort, but the service there is great.

Same here!  Resort was beautiful, beach was beautiful, but the food was "meh" and the beds were hard as rocks.

H and I stayed at Excellence Punta Cana for our honeymoon and I can't say enough good things about it. It was reasonably affordable and quick to get to (from Chicago) since we didn't want to spend 12+ hours getting to our destination.

  • There is also Zoetry in PC and Mexico. We have been to the one in Cabo and planning on going to the one in Riviera Maya next year! The food was great, the booze all high end, and the properties are small and quiet (if that is what you prefer. It's what we like.)

  • FI and I went to the El Dorado Royale in June.  It's on the Riviera Maya, too...adults only, and the food and everything was excellent!  We're definitely going back someday!

Now I want to look at some of these others!  lol

  • little late to the party, but we've stayed at Dreams in Cancun (that location sold to Hyatt though) and there are a few things I love about their all inclusive that aren't necessarily the case in all AI :
no armbands, no restaurant reservations, no towel cards.

I read wayyy too many reviews of people complaining at all inclusive about standing in line to make their dinner reservations at breakfast.  No thanks.

Oh no I've never heard about that! I've heard of the making reservations - not standing in line to do so part . . . . Eeep!!!

  • @lablove86 maybe it's at bigger resorts, I'm not sure.. but I spent a lot of time on Tripadvisor before my first all inclusive trip and those were the few things I looked out for. :)

The one I stayed at in Punta Cana was affiliated with Dreams. No wristbands or reservations was really nice. I didn't even think about that!

    Now I want another trip...
  • We are going to Excellence Punta Cana for our HM. Obviously we haven't gone yet, but I've heard amazing things!

If you're looking for a lower price, though, I'd recomment Iberostar Bavaro in Punta Cana. I've been there and I had a wonderful stay!
