Photography etiquette question

We have our photographer booked for 4 hours.  This should cover some of the time getting ready, the ceremony (short and sweet), cocktail/cake time, and some more pictures close by.  We are also planning on having dinner with and for our guests after all of that is done.  Are we supposed to invite the photographer to that meal?

Re: Photography etiquette question

  • As far as I know, no. Unless the photographer will be shooting during or after the dinner. However the photographer would not be eating with the party. It's more of a vendor meal.
  • I am booked with Todd Wilson. We have him for 8 hours, which will include the reception so I definitely wanted to make sure he was fed. In fact, even though he said he appreciated that I even offered anything, he was fine with a vendor meal but I'm having him as a seated guest. I want to make sure that no photo opportunities are missed. Whether it's speeches, other toasts, Elvis performing during our dinner, or just us walking around mingling with guests, I want him and his camera ready to go on a moment's notice. He'll be seated at a table with other wedding guests and he seemed to like that idea. I mean, who hates free food and booze, right? :) If you don't have the photographer booked to take any photos during a dinner hour, however, I don't think it's necessary, or even expected, that you invite them to the meal portion of the evening.

  • im the same as dbacksgirl.... We have Todd for 8 hours... but that means he will only be at our reception dinner for half of it... but I still intend on offering him the same meal as everyone else... you never know, he might take a few extra pics if he is enjoying himself!
