Final Weekly Checks/Worries/Ramblings...

I figured since it's now coming down to the final weeks, we could use a place to post our latest/final checks, worries/concerns that are popping up, and anything else WR.

This week's Checks:

  • FI got his gifts for our fathers and his brother
  • I sent updated vow/joining wording to officiant - waiting to hear back that he modified it
  • I sent a final table count to the florist - waiting for her to respond with final total (the payment is due next week, so get back to me lady!)
  • Marriage license application is in!  Only took us ten minutes at the city/county building.  First time I had to raise my right hand and take an oath.
  • We had the tasting finally - we loved everything!  More importantly we got to see what renovations they did at the restaurant and map out a solid table plan and where the iPod will be plugged in
  • ETA:  wrote out majority of place cards - well, for everyone who has bothered to RSVP as of now!

Worries:

  • Why haven't those final people sent their RSVP???  Did they not get them???  I know they have until 9/24 but it's annoying nonetheless.  I'm most surprised at my one uncle for not getting back to us yet, this is so not him.
  • I hope we have enough room in our luggage for our HM.  We're borrowing his parents' luggage so I have no idea how big the stuff is.
  • Starting to have regrets about the hairstyle I chose - my hair is naturally curly, and this style is not using my natural curls so it's not 100% "me", but FI really liked the style in the picture.  I'm not used to my hair being so flat to my head!
  • ETA: Hello alterations people, is my dress done yet?  You said two weeks and it's been 2.5, so just wondering.

Ramblings:

  • I wonder if I will be able to focus at work once we're married???  Right now I'm so disengaged with work, I don't care about my job or how well I do it.  I hope that improves when this is all over
  • My aunt sent us a set of nice wine glasses I registered for.  One came chipped.  She addressed it with the vendor and they ended up sending me an entire set for free...so now I have almost two full sets!!!
  • I told FI that we're supposed to open gifts sent early and send a thank you.  We have yet to open the gift his aunt sent us.  I don't want to press the issue but it's annoying.  She KNOWS the package is at his parents.  He's yet to suggest we get it and open it.  I don't want to for fear of seeming greedy.

Re: Final Weekly Checks/Worries/Ramblings...

  • Checks:

*Marriage License- It was almost too easy.

*QUIT SMOKING (this was a rough one!)

    *Got bridal shower dress

*Finished DIY projects like candles and place card holders

*Mailed out some Thank you cards for gifts we received early

    Worries:

*Ditto on the RSVPs...my deadline is the 20th and we are still missing several.

*I feel oddly nervous about my shower this weekend! I think it will be uncomfortable having so many people there just for me and watching me the whole time. Hopefully I get over this!

*Dress fitting on Saturday. Just generally stressed.

    Ramblings:

*I also CANNOT focus at work!. I work for my Dad's company and I'm sure it is becoming increasingly obvious to him that I can't concentrate on anything. it's frustrating!

*I have been having a terrible time sleeping lately!! it seems impossible to get a good nights sleep.

*I CANT WAIT TO BE MARRIED. DUHH :)

  • @Pepperally - I'm in the same boat with my job.  It's a great company but I just have so many other worries and feel like I'm under a constant state of stress - job related when I'm working and wedding related when I'm home.  After we're married will come a whole new set of worries.  I think we'll be back on track come Jan/Feb, but these next few months will be stressful and full of adjustment!!

I also am concerned about luggage space.  I'm taking stuff to make our welcome bags.  I guess we could have FI's brother/parents bring some stuff with them and trade off as well.  I'm hoping to have only 1 checked bag, 2 carry ons and 2 'personal' bags, if it ends up being 2 checked bags, it'll be fine (I just checked, it's cheaper than I thought for 2 checked bags for my flight; $25 for 1st and $35 for my 2nd... I thought it was $50 per bag!!).

  • Checks:
    • Almost everything is done, we are good to go
    • We have our bachelor and bachelorette parties this weekend!

    Worries:

    • Our bartender just cancelled on us, now we have to hire a new one
    • We haven't heard back from our tent rental place for a few weeks...
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Checks:
    - Need to ask our setup helpers if they are willing to help & instruct them on what to do
    -Finalize reception music with DJ
-Go over day-of timeline with coordinator
-Buy favors (they are plants, so this has to be last-minute so they don't die)
    -Buy gifts for helpers
    -Dry clean groomsmen suits

    Worries:
    -That I'm forgetting something
-That our reception is too short/will feel too rushed
-That I ordered too much food (previously "yes" RSVPers are now changing to "no" at the last minute)
-That I'm running out of money

    Ramblings:
-FI is going on a three day bachelor party the weekend before the wedding. That's when I will need the most help getting everything organized.. so I'm a little annoyed at that. I'm good friends with FSIL and FcounsinsIL and they live very near by- so I think they will be willing to help me

-Most of my guests (including my best friends, maid of honor, and all immediate/extended family) are traveling long-distance from different states. I hardly ever get to see them, and will only have a few hours to spend time with everyone before we leave for honeymoon. I'm sad that I won't get to spend more time with everyone. I'm worried about prioritizing each available minute to spend a little time with each of them. I'm afraid my friends will feel like I'm not spending enough time with them, and similarly that my family will fee like I'm not spending enough time with them. How do I prioritize the very limited moments where I can hang out with everyone before leaving???

    - Checks

Making final payments to everyone under the sun that is involved with this wedding

    - Worries

I too am worried I'm running out of money

Making sure FI gets all the stuff we need to bring for the wedding to the venue.  I've labeled everything and made a checklist. He thinks he has a photographic memory.  umm.  not

How I will be day of the wedding since my mom passed away 3 years ago.  I know she will be with me in spirit

Worried about my dad lighting the pillar candle for the Unity and Memorial candles and hoping he doesn't set the place on fire!

How my feet will hold up in the 4 inch heels I will be wearing for just a few hours.  Already thinking about those ballet flats I'll stash at my table!

    - Ramblings

Videographer (who was recommended by the photgrapher) wants to call me the week of the wedding to go over timeline.  Hello?  I gave you a printed copy of the timeline and we all discussed it when we (me, you, FI and photographers) all met in Aug.  You even asked me to email you a copy, which I did.  Why do you need to call me the week of the wedding, and add to my stress when I will be frantically taking care of last minute details and out of town guests?

  • mheller300. Good for you for quitting smoking!! I smoked for 12 years, and quit last September, but recently, I have been having a couple cigarettes here and there with my friends, and feeling reallllly guilty about it. But I keep saying it's because I'm really stressed, and this is a hard time for me. So you should be sooo proud of yourself for doing that during a time that is stressful for most of us!!
  • I was going to post everything on here, but I'm at work, and I feel like I could go on and on, and it would take me forever!!. Lol. Another case of not being able to focus at work here!!
  • thanks hkda2003. it has been a huge struggle trying to get in shape, quit smoking, and plan a wedding. Especially since the deadline for all three was basically the same! I started smoking when I was 19 so about 6 1/2 years now. Now I want some babies!!! haha
  • Ramblings:

    • I wonder if I will be able to focus at work once we're married???  Right now I'm so disengaged with work, I don't care about my job or how well I do it.  I hope that improves when this is all over
I can relate to this SO much. I feel horrible about it, but I cannot concentrate at work, and I can't even imagine what bride could a few weeks out from her wedding! I'm feeling like I should have taken the month off.

    Checks this week:
    - Sent a revised draft of our ceremony to the officiant, with questions
    - Have our final headcount! Yay! We will have 40 guests, which was our exact estimate all along.
    - Bought string lights to light up the wrap-around deck at the venue
    - Had my hair trial
    - Made final purchases for our popcorn bar (bagged popcorn and spices/flavorings)
    - Bought gifts for parents
    - Decorated our cupcake tower

    Worries:
    - That our photo booth will need a 4x8' piece of plywood placed over the gravel where the booth will be set up, to make it level. In my opinion the gravel is as even as gravel can be (and my coordinator agrees), but we're waiting for confirmation. If we need to bring a huge piece of plywood we will have to rent a huge van! Too stressful.

    - My hair trial didn't go as perfectly as I would have liked, and I worry I will hate my hair the day of. The stylist had lots of excuses for why it will look better on the day, but it's hard to visualize! I fear having to do my own hair at the last minute.

    - That we have too much to do and not enough time!! Tomorrow will be two weeks out!!!
  • Checks this week:

    • RSVPs are in!!!
    • Seating chart finished
    • Place cards done
    • Bachelor party tonight for FI - so excited for him!
    • Final dress fitting!

    Worries:

I'm (still) worried about my wedding hair style - I think it needs tweaked a bit so I don't look so bald on the sides, I'm not used to sleek hair since mine is naturally curly.  I'm getting my final hair cut and colored next week so I'm going to talk to her about it then (also worried about how much pain I was in from the bobby pins, maybe I should do something simpler with less pain!)

  • Checks this week!

    - I harassed some people for RSVPs today...because we didn't get any in the mail AT ALL today. I'm done. I just don't get why they find it sooo hard??

    - I finished the flower girl basket and baskets for the bubble wands and programs.

    - Bought archival ink pens for the guest book.

    - Sent in our DJ reception planning pack.

    - Talked about the day of timeline with our photographer.

    - Followed up with all of our vendors to confirm times and everything else for the wedding.

    - Scheduled our final venue meeting.

    Worries:

That hidden costs are going to show up somewhere that I didn't know about. Our budget is close and I don't want to suddenly go drastically over budget because of a cost coming up that I didn't know about. Also worried about looking awful in my wedding day photos even though my photographer is amazing. Worried about money because I have a lot of big things to pay for in the next few weeks.
