Affordable, quality votives

Any suggestions on where to buy votive candles (just the candle, I already have the glass holders) in bulk?  I need 100... I want them to last for at least 6 hours, but I also do not want to spend a ton of money on them.  Any suggestions?  I am looking for white or ivory unscented.

Re: Affordable, quality votives

  • I got them from Dollar Tree
  • Second Ikea. I've had mixed results from the Dollar store. Some are fine, others burn up in an hour.
(Keep your candles in the freezer before the event. They take longer to melt.)

Mind blown.  Really?  This changed my life.

I was not able to find votive candles on Ikea's website... I already purchased the glass holders so I just need the candles... I need 100 unscented votives... do you possibly have a link to what you are suggesting??

    This kind: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70236349/

    Or this kind:

We bought both.  You can't buy them online- you have to go to the store.
  • We got ours at quickcandles.com !!

  • Another quick tip.  Drop a dab of water into the bottom of your votive holder before inserting your candle.  Once the candle has burned down the wax will float on top of the water and the remnants should just be able to pop out.

Also sticking them into the freezer will not only give you a longer burn time on the candles but it will also help to pop out any remaining candle once burned.

  • I used the standard Ashland tea lights from Michael's, $5 for 50 of them. I didn't want to have to worry about cleaning wax out of my holders. They say on the package that they burn for 6 hours but honestly whether or not the candles were still burning was the last thing on my mind at the end of my reception.

  • Try Ebay. In our case, we needed a huge amount of silver votives, which were very hard to find in stores, and we found a huge, reasonably-priced lot of unopened votives on Ebay. Gift set leftovers, I think. Problem solved. If you happen to end up with an extra or two, you can try doing a test burn. We did a trial run with a complete centerpiece to make sure that the candles would burn for at least 5-6 hours, wouldn't melt the border we added to the holders, wouldn't catch the sand around them on fire, etc.
