Songs for bridal party intro & first dance.... wedding is right around the corner!!

We're just about a month out from our wedding and still haven't decided on a first dance song. I want something classic while FH wants something a little more new (that fits with our age - late 20's)... please help me find a happy medium!

Also, we haven't been to many weddings and I'm having difficulty find a song that my bridal party can walk out to. What are some fun songs that you've heard at weddings or are doing yourself?

Recommendations, much appreciated :)

Re: Songs for bridal party intro & first dance.... wedding is right around the corner!!

  • First, don't put too much pressure in regards to picking a first dance song.  Remember it is just a song.  It has zero bearing on how your marriage will be so just pick something that you both like and go with it.

As for the wedding party intros, have you asked any of them what songs they like?  I personally can't remember what any of the intro songs were for the wedding party at any wedding that I have been to and I can barely remember the one H and I picked for ours.  I think it was an Usher song..."More" maybe?

  • We actually just changed our first dance song. We were originally going to dance to Come Away With Me by Norah Jones. This weekend we decided to change it to a cover version of All Of Me (Luciana Zogbi). We're doing our reception entrance to Boogie Shoes by KC & Sunshine Band.
  • I wouldn't stress too much about song choices.  For some people music is very important and so they naturally think of songs that have  meaning to them, but if you don't, that's totally fine.

For the wedding party entrance, something upbeat and fun.  I like fun Motown, dance songs for entrances.  Everyone enjoys those.
  • Our wedding is in a little less than a month. Our first dance is "All of Me" by John Legend. I haven't decided on bridal party entrance. I like One Republics "Love Runs Out". Still haven't decided though.

  • The two we'd narrowed down for Bridal Party Entrance were Forever - C. Brown and Crazy in Love - Beyonce. We picked Forever.

Our first dance is "our song" (a Texas Country song no one where probably will know lol) and halfway though that it skips to another Texas Country Band song that's quicker that we'll swing/two-step to for a minute or so for the beginning of the song.

So in OTHER words - pick songs that mean something to you!! We are big on music though - so I understand song choices aren't that important to everyone. I slaved hours and days over all my song choices!!

  • for your first dance maybe you can find a "classic" song that has been covered or redone lately so its more modern. When you say classic, it can mean a lot of things so I'm not sure if you are thinking "classic rock" style (like something from Journey) or a classic traditional first dance song (like "At Last.") Whatever classic song you like, see if you can find a more recent artist who has covered it so you can meet in the middle on that one. Wedding Party, just pick something fun. It sets the tone and gets the party started. Our guys and girls entered separately. The girls entered to "Girls (Run The World)" and the guys entered to "Suit & Tie." We entered to "Yeah 3x"

  • There's a Ray LaMontagne song that we almost picked, because it is a modern song but it sounds very much like an older song. We actually just had a dance lesson and one of the other couples had picked this song, I guess it's pretty common!

We're not doing a wedding party entrance, so I can't help you there. My only advice is to keep it quick, people don't enjoy standing around the dance floor clapping for too long as people get introduced.
  • If you want a modern spin on a classic song, have you looked into Michael Buble?  I used his version of "Till there was You" for our Anniversary dance.  Our first dance song was "Only Have Eyes" by the Flamingoes.  A song I've always loved that's more recent, was used by my friends as their first dance, "Lucky" by Jason Mraz & Callie Colbe.

Our BP entered to "Hot, Hot, Hot" by Buster Poindexter.  I've entered to "Shipping up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys before.  I don't recall the other songs I've entered to.

To me, something classic would be a song like Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight." Maybe you and your fiance can compromise by having your bridal party and you and him walk out to a more recent song, but dance to a more timeless song.

This was a "must play" on our list. At least, it would have been if we'd had a DJ (we did the music ourselves).

Our first dance was "Lost Together" by Blue Rodeo.

  • We did "Final Countdown" for the WP and "Next to Me" by Emeli Sande for us. Recessional from the ceremony was "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors, I loved that too.

  • For our bridal party we used best day of my life, American authors.   We came out to sexy and I know it, lmfao...my husband's pick. He wanted something fun.

  • We are dancing to "Nothing Else Matters" Metallica. Bridal Party we haven't quite decided but we're thinking "Smooth Criminal" Alien Ant Farm, and for us, we are coming out to "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" Georgia Satellites
  • I would also sugges to pick something meaningful to you, if nothing, ask your DJ for recs.
  • @blondeej I'm curious at what Texas Country songs you chose - I love Texas Country :)

  • @MandyMost Was the Ray LaMontagne song "You Are the Best Thing"? That's the song I was thinking about suggesting. It's a little older sounding, but it's modern. Plus his voice is like magic. It's a nice upbeat song too.

OP, if you look up "first dance songs" on google or pinterest, tons of lists come up and a lot of them specify different styles.
