NWR: Cupcake flavours

I'm baking cupcakes for a friend's bachelorette this weekend (along with a champagne cocktails bar) and I cannot decide on a flavour. I only want to do one because of all the other things I'm responsible for, and I can't make up my mind. Ideally, I'd like to make a flavour-coordinating mini macaron as garnish, too.

I'm considering strawberry cupcakes with tequila-lime buttercream and a coconut macaron, blue velvet cupcakes with cream-cheese icing and chocolate-caramel macaron, something fancier with rosewater and cardamom and an earl grey macaron, or maybe going full Basic and doing a pumpkin cupcake with chai macaron...

But what are your favourite flavours? Have you seen anything cool while cake tasting or anything?

Re: NWR: Cupcake flavours

  • They all sound good, but I'd go with blue velvet or pumpkin chai

  • Shit, can you do a brunch for me? It'd just be me by myself but I'd still want enough cupcakes for 12 people.

Sorry, got sidetracked. That all sounds fabulous. Especially that rosewater and tea one, my god. SO FANCY!

  • I'm a huge sucker for cardamom, but I'd eat any of your suggestions.
  • All of those sound good. I'd also love sacripantina with candied hazelnuts, or a carrot cake with coconut and pineapple (no raisins) with an orange cream cheese frosting.
  • I think you should make them all.

And then put them in a box.

And then ship them to me. :D

I like the blue velvet combo the best. Then the strawberry, but my dislike of coconut means I'd pull the macaron off.

  • I would very much like to be your friend, please. And @beethery, mind if I come to brunch? I'll bring mimosas without orange juice.

Seriously, those all sound amazing. The drool started with the rosewater one though.

Macarons are a ton of work, don't take on too much if you plan making those yourself. They are science, it's crazy.

  • Nomnomnom. That's all I have to say.
  • Please put them all in a funnel and pour directly into my mouth.

Realistically, I think the pumpkin will be insanely popular.

  • One of my biggest crowd pleasers is a chocolate stout cupcake with bourbon cream cheese frosting. The other is oddly a grapefruit cupcake.

I just saw someone making earl grey and orange blossom water cupcakes and I need to steal that recipe right meow.

I want to make Brazos De Mercedes (CLICK) cupcakes. My friend brought a Brazos de Mercedes cake to work one time and it was increeeedible.

I've done macarons a few times and have a pretty solid technique now, thankfully. They are a challenge, though, you are right.

I'm not positive which ones I want to do yet, but I'm definitely taking these opinions into account! Thank you so much for all of your comments and ideas, this is exactly what I was hoping for!
I also bought some 100% maple syrup today, so if I do a pumpkin cupcake, I think I'll do maple cream cheese frosting with it.

And I might be more excited about my champagne bar, too. I'm doing tropical mimosas, kir royales, and either something with Aperol and grapefruit bitters or just with edible hibiscus flowers in the bottom.

There are too many words associated with those cupcakes.

My favorite cupcake I've ever eaten was a choclate thing with bailey;s injected in and an earl grey frosting.

  • Honestly, most of those flavors/combinations sound way too complicated to me, especially for a bachelorette party. When I'm drinking I just want something to shove into my facehole to soak up some booze. I wouldn't appreciate the fanciness and effort like I would at a shower. Keep it simple.

We're serving them during the afternoon with champagne cocktails, not while people are drinking heavily. We're all too old for getting plastered, haha, especially at 3PM. It's just a low-key night with a few fancy cocktails and a trip to a bar (not a club), no shots or strippers or costumes or whatever.

I'm with this. I think a pumpkin cupcake with maple cream cheese frosting sounds divine. Skip the macroons or make a separate flavor as a different dessert choice.

My party was low key too, but the fancier flavors still would have been lost on me/us. Idk. (Note: I'm normally all about the fanciness. I've just learned that for parties, people don't care as much.)

Chalk it up to different strokes, then, I guess. This is the kind of group that will turn up at wine-soaked potlucks with everything covered in shaved white truffle and with hand-churned ice cream and stuff like that. Chocolate fudge doesn't cut it with these people, lol. And I mean...if I were just to make plain ones, why not just buy them? If I'm going to bake them myself, I'd prefer to make something that I can't just pick up at the three cupcake shops within ten blocks of me.

I dunno. I enjoy doing it and my friends enjoy eating it, so why not, right? And honestly, I think my friends would probably disappointed knowing that I'm doing cupcakes and then I turn up with vanilla buttercream, haha.

Man I wish I saw this earlier. I have a killer strawberry champagne cupcake recipe I use. Sorry!

I realise I wrote "this weekend", but I definitely meant the one that's coming up, haha, oops. So I'd still take the recipe! I'm not sure I want to do champagne in the cupcakes as well, but I might!

This thread made me make cupcakes last night, I hope you're all proud of yourselves.
