My poor E-ring!

Fuuuuuuuck. So I posted a bit ago about how Kay broke one of the prongs off of my e-ring. Well I took it back and they "fixed" it. How did they fix it, you say? Well, they put a prong twice the size it should be and sanded the ever loving fuck out of the side of my band chipping 3 out of the 4 diamond on that side. The store refused to do anything about it, so I call their customer care team. I lucked out and got an awesome rep who sent me to a Jared (who knew they were affiliated?) and is covering 100% of the repair costs.

So that's great, right? Well I get to Jared and not only will they need to replace the diamonds, but they are going to have to completely dismantle my ring, melt down the gold, and make a new ring from scratch. My estimated date of return on my ring is less than 10 days before the wedding. I am so so bummed. Should I look at getting a "just in case" little ring for the wedding in case something happens and I don't get my ring back in time? Boooooooo!

  • Oh no! That's awful. I hope Jared is able to fix it faster than expected.

  • That is horrible...

Personally, I wouldn't worry about a "substitute" engagement ring for the wedding.  It would annoy me more (personally) to look at pictures and see a ring I know isn't my engagement ring than it would to not be wearing anything other than my wedding band.

Actually, most major jewelry stores are all owned by Sterling. There are very few that aren't.

I wouldn't worry that much about it for the wedding unless you absolutely need your e-ring. I wore mine on my right hand during the ceremony, because the wedding band goes on first anyway. Unless your rings are soldered together, you could just wear your wedding band until you get your e-ring back.
  • Thanks all. Just for clarification, they have my band because they need it for reference as they are a set, so I won't have either until the E-ring is done. =(

  • Wow.  I'm sorry your going through this.  Luckily Jared does everything on site in their stores so that's a plus.  They won't have to wait for it to ship back to the store before they call you to say its in.

Hopefully you'll have your ring back in time.  I would hold on getting a "just in case" ring.  You never know, it might come back sooner.

  • Ohhhh, man. That sucks. I figured you'd still have the band to use for the ceremony.

You could always just get a cheap band online just in case you need to use for the ceremony. I know it's not THE ring, but the vow is what matters, right? :)

  • Yeah I am just so bummed. I love my e-ring as FI spent months looking for one he thought would be perfect for me and it was! I just hope that it will look like it did before.

  • What a bunch of fucking unprofessional fools. Like seriously, WHAT THE FUCK. I'm surprised you haven't asked them for a refund and told them to fuck off. But I guess that ring has a special meaning to you. And that is why you should stick around and wait for it to come back. That replacement little ring won't really be meaningful and IMHO you don't need another one for the wedding. You can go bare finger and you'll still have your wedding ring on when you say your I Dos. Right? :)

  • Maybe Jared can promise you they will have the wedding band available for your wedding day? Since they are not mailing anything to another site they would still have it for you to pick up if the e-ring isn't done yet. They might be willing to do that for you if they have not finished in time.

Or maybe there's a ring with sentimental value that you could use instead? I have a ring from FI that he bought before we were engaged. Not as fancy or nice, but still from him.

@SmileDamnit--I wanted to try it, but going to Kay and now Jared is the only way they would pay for it to be fixed. The guy who is repairing it said that this repair would typically be in the thousands of dollars especially since they are replacing diamonds. Definitely don't want to do that out of pocket.

Ugh. How shitty. I guess it makes sense since that's where it was purchased, but sucks that it broke so soon in the first place. Hopefully they'll get it right and you won't have to worry about it in the future.

I hear ya. It was actually purchased at a small family run store in FI's home town in Iowa which makes me even more sad. I should have just shipped it there! It would have been quicker!

  • I am going through some stressful ring stuff right now too. I got my wedding band resized, but they sized it wrong, so I had to get it resized again, and the ring was supposed to be back last week, but it's not, and I don't know where it is, so I might have to use a fake wedding band at my ceremony. We'll see. Sorry you're dealing with problems too!

  • @rachelsea53-Oh no!! Have you called the store? What did they say?
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • Sara, it should be ok. Jared has always been fantastic with my needs. I ordered Fi's wedding gift (watch) from them and had it engraved. They told me it would be ready by Wednesday. It was ready by Monday. They will take care of you!

  • Wow, that is beyond awful. I am so sorry! I'd be so upset.

  • @sarabridesoon yeah, I called them multiple times to get status updates. I finally talked to someone who seemed like he actually cared about my situation, and he reached out to the company who did the resizing (different from the company I bought my ring from) and he found out it's on its way back to me, finally. I should have it soon. Better late than never.

  • Ok, I'm super hormonal right now (13 days until my wedding) and I'm seriously crying over this. What a horrible situation. :( I'm so sorry!
  • Oh my word that REALLY sucks. And if be so angry at the original company. I'd be expecting some kind of compensation from them. It's really Unacceptable. They messed up and instead of admitting it, messed up even more!

Kay's doesn't do their own repairs.  They would have sent it out to a local repair shop.
''DH and I had a very short engagement of about 2 months.  Since I worked for what was the second largest diamond dealer in the country, we ordered my ring, custom, from New York. (Such a deal!  I got it for him wholesale!)  It arrived about a week before the ceremony.  I had it just in time for the shower my mother's friends threw for her, uh, me.
    It will be fine!

  • I'm just pleased that you can get the problem sorted.  I really hope that it doesn't take as long as quoted, and from what PPs said, I'm feeling positive about the timing being better than expected.
