this is another photographer I am looking. IDK if the pictures are quality because I don't know anything about photography. I like everything else that she offers, and she says shes been in business for like 20 years or something. Are her pictures good? I think they are but again I have no idea.

The most important thing is you and your FI need to like your photographer's work -- not a bunch of people on the internet. Also, whatever is on a photographer's website should be their absolute best work -- not their average work. With this in mind, I don't see anything that wows me. It's not that the work is bad - it's decent. IMO, that's all it is though, decent, and that's not what I wanted in a wedding photographer.

What do you mean by "good"? Do you like her style? Does it appeal to you? Do you see any of these pictures and think you'd like them on your wall? Most professional photographers have great equipment, so you'll get quality images..but it's the style that's important. You need to find someone who "gets you" and what you want for your wedding photos. IMO, these are very staged pictures, which isn't my style.

Ok....take my opinion with a grain of salt because I work with photographers in my career.....but her photos are that of someone who doesn't know much about photography. She doesn't have much a sense of composition or lighting. It is pretty similar to that of what anyone could do with a proper camera. I would be worried about her color correction and editing skills when working on retouching for you.

She isn't awful....it just depends on what you are looking for. Editorial style is very popular right now and it's very loose and natural and you wouldn't really get something like from her. if you want more standard wedding photos then she would do an ok job.

These aren't my style. They look very staged and I don't like the way she used lighting. It depends on what you like. I like softer lighting and unposed shots. DH does photography as a hobby, so he was interested in the equipment the photographer used and what settings they used.

Photography is extremely subjective. The style that one person likes will be drastically different than the style another likes. That said, I, personally, don't think she's a great photographer (strange framing, bad lighting, lots of shadows), nor do I care for her style (very posed, selective coloring, etc.). Like PPs have said though, if you like the style and seem to mesh with the photog after meeting her, then go for it!

What kind of wedding photos do YOU want to have? There are different styles of photography. Are you interested in the formal/traditional photos or a more journalistic/candid approach? I think if you decide on what types of photos you like and want it will help give you direction when looking at photographers.

Personally I had a better experience when I went to a few bridal shows so I could meet the photographers and look at previous wedding albums in person. I had done a lot of research ahead of time to decide on what style I wanted.

The pictures aren't my style at all.

Ditto PPs that say it doesn't really seem like she is confident with lighting. A few of the pictures were really uneven and a few were too dark. The framing/positioning of them also seemed off.

I personally think you could do better, but my taste could be very different from you and your FI's.

Yeah I like them but I figured they weren't actually very good. It's hard for me to tell because I personally wouldn't choose any of those shots. I guess I was more in love with her price.

I did a photoshoot for the front cover at the
Inn. It's gorgeous!!!! I can meet anywhere where do you live?
Weeknights work the best for me well except tomorrow. I got talked
into from one of my brides to jump out of a plane for engagement pics
and it's her bday (yah I am afraid of heights) can't believe that I am
doing it...eak but I have Thursday and Friday open this week. And yes
I am Irish

but don't worry I don't drink at peoples weddings lol

Okay so what about her? I like her pictures more. I really appreciate the feedback from you guys. You all say it's what I like but I just like good pictures and I don't know how to tell who will take good ones. Your feedback is helping a lot!!! I can't even tell you why I like these ones more. Basically, I want good photos of mostly people and mostly FI and I. I don't need 1000 garbage pictures of my shoes and other bull. I also would like a photographer who knows how to photograph people in a flattering way.

The only person I really trust with photo opinions IRL is a friend who will be mad that I'm not hiring her.

I also was married in michigan and although my photographer doesn't really travel, one of my friends who was recently married's photographer I believe travels all over the mitten.

Yes ma'am. And thank you! I think I need to keep researching. I just get so sick of shopping around I always want to settle, lol. Someone always talks me out of it and I am glad for that.

IMO, the second one you linked is MUUUUUCH more professional. Way different style than the first, though, and you mentioned liking the first one. Are you sure you'd be happy with the artistic approach of the second gal?

Agree with PPs. I just cannot get past the first picture in the "Wedding" section of that page. WTF???
