Sad :( but too personal?

So my little baby kitty (she was 2 almost 3) passed away 2 days ago from what we believe was a blood clot Frown It was the most horrifying thing I've ever seen happen and we're a little distraught over the whole thing.  Cry

Since then we've decided we're going to donate money to the local animal refuge league & the bangor humane society (where we got her) instead of favors for the wedding.  I am going to print up business cards exlpaining this but if I added a picture of Lexie (my kitty) with the cards explaining that we are doing that in lue of losing our pet in March is that too personal?  Too sad?  It's still really fresh and I'm not really thinking straight so honest opinions please!!!

I think it's a wonderful way to honor your kitty.  You could always put "In Memory of Lexie" under her picture or something, so that you don't get too into details with the story, but people get it was your beloved cat.  We are cat people ourselves, with three we've saved.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  Cry

I am so sorry for your loss.  We are a three cat family and I can't imagine what we'd do if that happened to us.

I voted for picture but no explanation.  I have a few friends, as well as a FI, who would be absolutely distraught and bummed if they got to a happy celebration and heard the story.  They are all huge huge huge animal/cat lovers and would probably feel a little too bummed out, as guests, to enjoy the rest of the evening.

If it were something that was distributed at the end of the reception, I'd add the explanation, but I'd skip it if people will be given the card early on.

Thank you :( Sorry I didn't explain that well.  I would never in a million years tell the guests how she died (if that's what you're thinking).  It was bad enough for us and the few people I have told have broken down also.

By explanation I meant something like:

"We decided to donate money in name of this wedding to the Bangor Humane Society & the Westbrook Animal Refuge League after the loss of our beloved cat, Lexie.  RIP Lexie 3.12.08-3.6.11"  and then attach it to a picture of her (we have hundreds so there might be several different ones but only 1 per place setting).

    How's that?

I would cut out the RIP and after Refuge league I would put "In memory of our beloved cat, Lexie.  I think it reads better, and sounds more positive.

I wasn't sure but after reading everyone else, I think I agree.  A picture that reads, In Memory of our Beloved Cat, Lexie would be nice.

I am so sorry to hear :(  I love kitties, losing mine would be like losing a member of the famliy.  Hang in there.

Oh no!!!!  So sorry for your loss!  We have a kitty and would be devastated to loose him, especially right before our wedding.  We are also doing a donation to the shelter where we got him.  I think it's totally appropraite to honor her, she was a part of your family.  So sorry!

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your cat, losing them is always a hard thing to go through.

I think it is great you are donating to the ARL and the Humane Society.  If I were you, I would put a nice framed photo of her and a type written sign on the guest book table, simply explaining that in lieu of traditional favors you are making a donation to the organizations on her behalf.  I would not bother having a place card at each seating explaining this.

Again, I am sorry for your loss and I think it is wonderful that you are honoring her this way.
