Bridal Shower Seating

Throwing my sister a bridal shower. Am I supposed to seat the mother's together?

The groom's family is huge. My family is very small.  It will look funny just my mother and aunt on one side and all of them at one table.

Re: Bridal Shower Seating

  • I dont know what is custom, but my guests just sat at random tables. I believe that was true for anothe recent shower I attended, as well
  • I don't know if this is poor etiquette or not, but I've never seen assigned seating at a bridal shower.  Everyone just picks a spot to sit.

  • I was assigned seating at a bridal shower once, but there were at least 60 people there.  Each mother sat at a table with her own sister and close family members.

  • Every shower I've ever been to (wedding and baby) were open seating. People sat wherever.

I've never seen assigned seating at a bridal shower. But, if there is a need for it, seat the mothers together.
  • The only assigned seating I have seen was that the bridal party sits together.  This is because they will be constantly getting up to conduct the games, open gifts etc and they did not want to disturb guest.

  • Depends on the size of the shower.  I had 2 - one had 11 people and was held in a church banquet room so obviously we didn't have assigned seating.  The other had over 40 people and was held in a restaurant party room and I LOVED that my MIL did assigned seating because not only did I not know at least 30 of the ladies there, my mother and grandmother who came with me only knew my MIL and SIL's (DH has a huge family, this shower was thrown by his aunts). So it was nice because there were a ton of people that I didn't know and we didn't have to "scramble" to find seats together. MIL put me with my mom and grandma, SIL's, herself, and my DH's grandmothers.
