Champagne

For those of you doing in-suite receptions, how are you determining how much champagne and alcohol to get?  We are just going to buy some champagne/wine/beer, and I have no idea where to start.  We are having a welcome party the night before also.

Re: Champagne

  • I'm having an in-suite reception, and a good friend of ours is supplying the alcohol. We're doing just a few bottles of champagne with mostly beer/water/mixed drinks. I'm think you'll just have to guess depending on how many people you think will be there.

    Good luck! :0)

  • I think I saw a calculator tool on one of the wedding websites. Google wedding alcohol calculator and it should come right up

  • A few things I've learned from hosting parties; less people will drink champagne than you think, most people don't know champagne and a lot more vodka will be needed than you think. So I'd get several bottles of cheaper champagne; Chandon has a very good $15-range bottle for example. How many people we talking and do you have some drinkers? I typically get about 100 people at parties at my house and we easily go through six 1.75's of vodka so never hurts to have too much.

    Here's my party setup. :-)

Google says an average of 6 glasses of champagne/bottle, so I'm bringing along 20 bottles for the weekend ^_^

Figure 10-20 hard liquors + mixers and I'll be set.  Maybe a few cases of beer too. ~1k alcohol budget.
  • Most of our people will be beer/wine drinkers.  We are expecting about 20 people.  Fiance and I can put away a decent bottle of champagne in about 30 minutes, so I guess we are bigger champagne drinkers than most people.  I'm bringing a couple of bottles of my favorite for me and my entourage while I get ready.  We have a wine guy here that said it would be no problem to ship it to us (no sales tax in Oregon woohoo).
  • lol I was thinking the same thing. My wife and I love champagne and one bottle is typically about two glasses each plus a half glass I steal by refilling my glass before hers. :-)

  • anyone who did a restaurant reception... did you do a champagne toast?

  • We did, and had champagne as part of the open bar.  Everyone did the toast but I saw very few ordering it over the course of the evening.  I had some because I love champagne and the included option was a pretty decent bottle.

  • We plan on having one. It will likely be our escort cards.

  • My question for In suites is whether to have open consumption or just pay per person per hour. Mines is at The Orleans. I understand having a confirmed guest count helps and knowing your guests;). I have searched The regarding "The Orleans" and "Star Dust" and one had mentioned for 60 people open consumption for 4 hours was cheaper than the per person/hr. I would just hate to give bartenders a limit then come hour 2 it's been reached and even allowing for a reserve it ends up being 2x expensive. Guess these are all the unknowns of planning a wedding!
  • @Futuremrshauger I think that greatly depends on your guests. Ours are big drinkers and we would go broke if we did consumption (for four hours, too!). I'd rather go in knowing exactly what I'm going to pay, but I guess that's the planner is me.
  • Our friends definitely made epic use of our open bar lol, glad it was per hour rather than drink.

  • @ericandmarie I just sat the FI down and he laughed at me… "Really..you know who are friends are." :)
  • I'm stardust too...
I'm thinking we're going to wait to get all out RSVP before we make our decision. Most of our friends are big drinkers but it depends on who comes.

@rosebubbly I am so excited to hear all your experience at Star Dust!! I did a search and read all the past posts/reviews to read people's experiences (all have been very favorable) to get ideas of what to decide for the food/drink options.

After much thought, I think 20 bottles of Moet will do.

If they don't get consumed, well then I guess 2015 will be a bubbly year.
  • Since we are on a tiny budget, a well-to-do friend of ours is supplying all the alcohol for our guests. He's only bringing beer, wine, and hard liquor with mixers. I'm bringing myself and my fiancé probably 5 bottles of champagne to toast with and celebrate the night!

  • Are any of you planning to take a special pair of champagne flutes for yourselves? I have thought about buying some but am wondering if it will be worth the hassle to worry about traveling with them....

  • I was thinking about it but ultimately decided that it would be a hassle and we could spend that money elsewhere.  We did get a cake cutting set though.
  • I get a free bottle of champagne and two flutes after our wedding :)

  • My wife and I drink champagne regularly.  We've broken out the 'special' flutes for one anniversary.  Other than that, they sit in a box taking up a lot of room I would rather have for other stuff we never use. :-)

Yeah, I wasn't so much thinking about how often we'd use them but just a photo op for that day. I thought about ordering some that say "i still do" and "me too"... That being said, it's not at the top of my priority list. We didn't have special ones for our wedding either.
  • I wasnt going to buy any but my Mom already did so we will have them.  Theyre actually quite nice and have Mr Right and Mrs Always Right on them.   lol  cute!  My Mom is coming in from another city so shell be bringing them which is good, one less thing for me to remember or bring.

Note:  My comma isnèt working on my keyboard for some reason so I had to eliminate them above.
  • That sounds really cute! Great gift and good that you don't have to worry about them ahead of time. @tasa4508
  • I received our flutes yesterday.  They are modern customized Mr & Mrs with our last name.  They are much nicer than I thought.  So nice, that I'm thinking I will get them for the rest of the BP.  We are driving, so we expect to bring a LOT of stuff.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • We get to keep our champagne flutes and serving set from our wedding venue, but honestly, I don't really want either.
