Trash

While not the best title for a post on a wedding board.  It is important.  How did you handle all the extra refuse after the reception?

Re: Trash

  • We plan on bringing trash bags (because those little trash cans just won't be enough), and then probably calling and asking someone to pick them up before regular housekeeping time (and tipping).
  • A $20 to the house keeping person handling your room will usually make it disappear; increase if you really destroyed the room lol. :-)

  • @vegasgroom Did you call house keeping to your room initially and tip them extra, asking them to come back a few times, or how did that work? How did they know to come and clean up?

  • I was thinking of bringing a few of those collapsible cardboard bins with really sturdy bags so we can fill them over and over again.

In my case it wasn't a reception but the wedding party had keys to our room and 'decorated' while the reception was still going on.  It was bad enough that I was worried about the hotel charging me.  When I saw the housekeeper, I just said you know, we just got married, our friends made a real mess of the place, I want you to know I appreciate the fact that you probably deal with that kind of thing all the time.  Gave her $20.

Other people on here though have typically asked the housekeeper if they will be working the next day.  If yes, then I would not recommend giving money at that point because schedule change, etc.  But mention that you're "having some friends over to party" and you want to let him/her know that if they make a mess, you want to make sure he/she gets compensated for the time so you'll make sure you're around.  Then at least they're prepared and you can take care of it the next day.

  • I'm thinking of something like this and separating trash from bottles/cans.  Even thinking of bringing a can crusher to cut down on bulk.
