Even verbal thank you's are extinct! UPDATE

So, I was invited to a friends (2nd) baby shower (yep), but couldn't make it because I was going to be out of town.  So I got her a gift because I couldn't make it.  Which I understand is totally optional on my part, but I did anyway.  I snuck her gift into her office before she came in to work for the day, with a card from me on the outside of the bag.  A day passes, 2 days pass, the day of the shower passes, and no verbal "thank you!" or "hey I got your gift"  I'm just wondering, should I have said at this point, hey, did you get my gift, or is that weird?  Just as an FYI I see this person just about everyday.

  • I mean, she clearly got the gift if you put it in her office before she came in for work. Unfortunately some people are just that rude. I think at this point you should just let it go. There is no point in bringing it up really.

  • Oh, I'm definitely letting it go, I just needed somewhere to vent my frustration..At this point I'm holding out for a thank you card. Ha! Here's hoping!

  • I understand the need to vent about this stuff! Vent away! How long ago was the shower? Maybe she is lumping your TY into the others? (Still rude not to get it to you right away).

Side note: If you are sticking around, you might want to change your username to something more unique. There are a lot of KnottieNumbers around and it is hard to get to know people that way. Just a thought because I like you so far. =)

  • You kidding?  I would have expected acknowledgement the minute she got to work, via text, email, smoke signal, her wandering over to my cubical to say thank you.. SOMETHING.

I absolutely would say to her, "Hey, did you get the gift I left?  Because I left one, and never heard anything."

    LOVE this idea!

I can't think of anything I would want to change it to!  But that is on my radar for sure.. ;)

  • I would seriously ask about it. I think it would be easy to snag something off someone's desk without people noticing.
  • The shower was last week, I will give it one more week to see if a thank you note comes in the mail. If not, I will ask.  Because by that time, I really will be worried! If someone did steal it, I hope they enjoy newborn diapers, baby wipes and a baby blanket!

  • My friend at work had to miss my shower (she said she was coming and just didn't show up). Anyway, she left a present on my desk the Monday after my shower. I just wrote her a thank you note like any normal person would and sent it to her 2 days later.

I don't know if I saw her at all during those 2 days (we sit on opposite sides of the building), but I didn't verbally thank her. But if you don't get a thank you card, you should definitely ask her about it.

  • Not really related to the OP, but one of the funniest work things I have seen is when one of my coworkers had a baby...the guys he primarily worked with COVERED...and I mean COVERED his office in diapers the day before he was coming back to work.  They were everywhere, lol.  The floor was covered in the unopened diaper packs and individual diapers covered every surface.

  • That is hilarious. What a great prank.
