TMI: Yeast infection

I have a yeast infection 7 days before my wedding. Let's hope the 3-day Monistat and lots of yogurt clear this sucker up before next Saturday. I can't help being a little nervous...

I did go to the doctor on Thursday, though, so at least I can call her for advice if it doesn't get better in time. Ugh. Anyone have tips to help make sure it goes away?

  • Good luck! Just make sure it's the real Monistat and not the generic stuff. If so, you'll be ok.

I second this, I think you'll end up being fine :)
ETA: I have found, however, that the 3 day doesn't work for me sometimes, I have to use the 5 day. There's still time for you!

This. The 3-day Monistat doesn't cut it for me. I need the 5-day minimum, but often even use the 7-day one if I have the time for it.

And obviously there are a bunch of home remedies that you could try in addition to the Monistat, such as the yogurt, like avoiding sugar since yeast feeds of sugar.
  • Good luck!

TMI when I get yeast infection I use a hydrogen peroxide and warm water mixture. I just put it in an empty douche bottle and use it once or twice a day. The HP is a way to get rid of bad bacteria and in my experience it helps more than the yogurt.

  • Can you call your gyno? Maybe they can call in some diflucan. That with the cream and you should be good.

  • Diflucan knocks it out for me, and without the need for pantyliners etc. It is also pretty cheap at the pharmacy, and my gyno will call in a script for a few refills of it at a time.
  • I get hormonal yeast infections every month. =(  Did your doctor give you a prescription?  The last time I went in I got a prescription for a stronger version of monistat.  They also gave me oral fluconazole.  Don't drink any alcohol, and reduce your sugar intake as much as possible.  There's also a vaginal probiotic called Luvena that I like to use.  I saw it at Walgreens the other day, but I haven't been able to find it at any other drug store yet.  Hope you feel better!

  • Good luck!!  I'm a UTI kinda girl and I've never had a yeast infection, so I can't help at all.  I hope it clears up though

  • glad I am not the only one...14 days before.

  • I used to get them chronically, sometimes twice a month and all of the over the counter stuff stopped working. My doctor gave me the oral fluconazole, knocked it right out. I get them maybe twice a year now and the fluconazole works every time. I highly recommend it.

  • Thanks everyone! I didn't know about avoiding sugar or alcohol, so I'll have to do that. My doctor called in something oral - I think it's the fluconazole - so I'll pick that up today, too.
