Need help with this outfit! Different tights? Flats instead of boots?

I am seriously fashion challenged.  I was going to wear the dress alone for my epics on Monday, but it was definitely bordering on scandalous...image

  • I feel like you've got too many neutrals.  I personally have never really liked the look of navy and black, though I know lots of people who do look good combining it.  It's just me.  Anyway, with the brown boots too, it seems like too many neutral colours.  I think I'd change the tights somehow, but not sure to what.  It's a super cute dress though.  I really like it.

  • Yeah I don't know what to do about the tights either! ARG!

They are actually gray sweater material though, to clarify!

  • The belt needs to be flush with your body or not present at all. Also, I'd go with a black/gray boot and a black/gray belt as opposed to the varying shades of brown.

I'm particular about this shit though so others might disagree.

  • I agree with the too many neutrals comment. Here are some examples where they brought in more color to a similar outfit.

The belt was actually twisted funny, so it wasn't done, it's hanging from the loops :-P

These are actually the first boots I found that fit my fat calves, so I don't have any other ones... except for some knock off Uggs!

    Arg! Thanks!!

  • I think red shoes and a different belt would make that outfit awesome!

Yeah, I totally see what you mean!

Maybe some purple if I can find them... (The other outfit I have for the photos is navy & purple) I think I was more limited bc I originally didn't have the boots so I was definitely looking for tights that I could wear with flats, but I can get away with leggings with the boots!

I'd exchange the tights for other ones and maybe a different belt, too.  Examples of leggings:

Those belts are so cute!!  I couldn't find anything like that in the stores, and since I only bought the dress (which came with the belt attached) on Thursday, I didn't have time to online shop much... I got some from amazon today but I don't think I like any of them!

  • Also, on What Not to Wear, they say when you put together an outfit, adding CPTS (colour, pattern, texture, and shine) makes sure that it is interesting.  Below are some pictures of some similar outfits, to build on PPs:

  • How cold is it outside-- do you need the tights and boots?  I wore a similar dress for my e-pics with bare legs and flats and I think it was fine.

Those boots look a bit heavy/casual for that dress IMO.  Maybe keep the tights if you want warmth/coverage but wear flats or heels instead.  And a colorful scarf if you want to add some interest.

  • I'm guessing around 60-65 degrees?

I'm a cold person, so I like the coverage, but I wasn't originally planning on it.  The dress is super short though - the outer sheer layer is normal length but the inner one prevents me from doing normal things... like sitting!

I'd rather not be thinking about not showing my ass the whole time, ya know? ;-)

I see what you mean about the heavy boots though.

These are the shoes I was originally planning on wearing.  They have cute little oxford like details.  I don't wear heels.

Ha, I mean that is so similar to my e-pic outfit that of course I love it.  Yeah, I do prefer those shoes to the boots.  It just seems to balance the outfit better.

That's so funny!  I wish I could borrow yours though, or at least magically add a couple inches to mine!

  • Love the flats with that dress! If it's too cold to go bare legged, a red or mustard tight would be better than a grey/black. You could also go with a sheer hose and add some color with a cute cardi or scarf.

  • I like the flats better than the boots - and you can still wear leggings or tights with it if you'll be cold/don't want your trunk junk hanging out. I do love the dress and belt, though!
