Two Rooms at a Wedding

Until today I have only read about this on TK. I am currently at a wedding where guests are in two rooms. We are in the second, where you can't see the dance floor, the speeches, etc. More drinks please!!

It could be ok. The last wedding I went to had 90 min in speeches. We actually had an intermission for drinks and pee breaks and then speeches continued again.

How narcissistic do you (general you) have to be to think anyone wants to hear speeches about you for that long? I don't want to hear the fucking president talk for that long. I sure as hell don't want to listen to it at your wedding.

Eye to Eye girl! I was at a wedding where I was in the 2nd room! Our table did get a bit disgruntled and we decided to create a list of gripes about the whole wedding, which included a gap.

It was worse cos we didn't know the couple well. We were kinda surprised to even get an invite. I think the introduction of the WP took 20 min as they went through the history or each one and the B/G. Everyone gave a speech, it seemed.

I would have been too, but didn't want to walk in front of the speeches to get to the cash bar. That would have been rude.

I'd be the bad person to do that and then visibly check my watch repeatedly during my drink walk.

Alcohol is important in cases of serious boredom.

90 minutes for speeches, like nine zero. Ugh.

I was at a wedding for one of my good friends where all of us 20 somethings were put into the side room. It was the closest tables to the bar, so that was a plus. From my table I could see the band, so that was good. Even the bridal party members were in this room, so we had a good time and called it the kids room. They had a big wedding, so I understood why they did it. It's not ideal, but it was fine, and I didn't judge her for it.

The super tacky wedding we went to last fall (gap, cash bar, etc) included a nervous GM who tried to make a clever speech but kept stammering. My drunk table in the back corner was laughing hysterically when he stumbled through this part and accidentally said something naughty:

"One of the reasons groom fell for bride back in high school was because she was just so easy.... so easy.... so easy going."

I really dislike weddings like this and judge them. We went to one last year where the venue was this private club with an enormous ballroom. There were a bunch of 10-tops set up around the dance floor (typical wedding style).

DH was in the wedding, so I arrived there with another GM's wife. No escort cards, so we went to every table and couldn't find our names. When we asked the event coordinator he said only some guests were seated in the ballroom and there was extra, open seating in the back room behind the kitchen. Yea, it wasn't a joke. We went back there and it was this small room where they had only a handful of tables set up restaurant style (like 2 and 4 seater). All of them were taken.

I should also mention DH had a reserved seat with the rest of the WP. So the WP wasn't seated with SOs AND they didn't even have seats for SOs period. And no seats for the WP's families, who they also invited. All in all, there were about 150 people with assigned seats and about 50 without any seating at all.

We haven't talked to them since.

I have to say, we love the couple and ended up having a great time with the other guests. It was a lovely wedding otherwise. I had just never really understood the two room thing until this weekend. Some of the speeches were so funny, I wish I could have seen what was happening. The only good thing about my particular seat was that I still had a view of the B&G to see their reactions. I also realized too late that there was a way to totally sneak off and get back and forth from the bar without most people seeing from where our table was, haha!
