Just overturned the part of the law stating that we wouldn't recognize out of state marriages between gay people.

You guys.

I'm not sure if you're being silly, sarcastic, or maybe can't see my gif?

B/c it's a young black man dancing on top of his desk.  So I'd say I'm pretty damn happy.

ETA: Okay, I just say you "liked" the post, so I guess you're with me.  :)
  • I am with you I am gay.
  • YAY MO!!

Meanwhile the AG of my state is like a dog with a bone and won't let the issue drop.  They're arguing in the supreme court to keep our state's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. ::le sigh::

Beyond the human rights issues, it pisses me off that they are spending money and have wasted so much time fighting this when it's probably going to be over turned.  Our state has many more pressing matters that need to be addressed and much more of a threat to public health and safety.  (like...oh IDK, we've had more shootings this year than ever before)

  • We have 1 more case that was argued...2 weeks ago tomorrow, that would actually overturn the ban on marriage between same genders here (I'm refusing to use gay marriage anymore b/c it's stupid.  I think saying gay marriage makes it sound like something special and it's not, it's a basic human right that gay people want BACK).  No word as to when that judge is going to hand down his decision.  There is also a 3rd case that hasn't been heard yet.

So far, no stay was issued in this Jackson County case, so all marriages in other states are now recognized in Mo.

No word on if the state AG is going to appeal the Jackson Co. decision.  He's a Democrat who has openly supported marriage between same gender, but points to his job as representing the state majority.  Which, I get.  He's got an election to win and all elected reps walk a fine line of the "only rep the majority, how to protect the minority".  But really, with the new tax bill they just passed, we're looking at major deficits next year.  The state can't monetarily afford to play this out in court.  Oh and we shouldn't suck at human rights either, that's a big thing for me.
  • Yeah, people had about 12 hours to get married before the stay was issued.  At least our clerks offices were kind enough to stay open longer hours to get as many licenses issued as they could.  I really hope all of it wasn't for nothing.  With the way every other challenge has gone, I'm hopeful that it was not.
  • UPDATE:  Supreme Court rejected appeals by 5 states (including mine) regarding their same-sex marriage bans.  :)

I was just going to post the same--I'm covered as well!

Take that, stupid "one man, one woman" constitutional amendment that passed after we moved here.
  • I live in a legal stste.
  • Maybe there is hope for Arizona. **wishful thinking**

    Yeah right. Backwards ass state.
