Panic!!!

Electric Daisy Carnival has changed their date to Vegas to my wedding weekend and now hotel rates have skyrocketed to ridiculous prices! My FI just got our room block but it's at the price after the carnival press release. I am freaking out. I feel like there's no way I can ask family and friends to go to Vegas on what seems like the most expensive weekend of the year. I need advice!!! Should I just take a breath and hope for the best, or should I change our wedding date and try to rearrange our wedding and reception (both of which have been 'finalized' already) to another weekend. Help!

Re: Panic!!!

  • Ugh, I feel bad for you.  I've been in Vegas on EDC weekend once and it was a nightmare getting a cab after 9p when everyone started heading out.

How bad have the rates gotten before/after?  What hotel are you going to be using?  Maybe there are some less expensive alternatives in walking distance?

  • I'll be honest - EDC weekend here on the strip is a nightmare. No offense to any people who are a fan of the scene, but if you aren't EDC people, it's annoying.

What hotels are you looking at?? My sister goes to EDC each year and I know her crowd generally aims for the cheapest stuff they can find, and more on the north end of the strip to hopefully help keep cab fare down slightly. So maybe if you look in another area of the strip...

People often have weddings here on the big fight weekends too, with high room prices, busy strip, etc. but I think they come out of it all okay - just such a bummer!!

  • My brother goes to EDC too; he and five or six buddies pack into a room at Four Queens lol.  I'm not sure why the strip hotel prices go up since most of the crowd don't stay there.

  • We are at Aria, which is pricey enough. The lower end hotels are up in the 200s per night- I can't justify spending over $200 for Excalibur, etc. The good news is that the chapel is available the weekend after, with MUCH more affordable rates everywhere. We might just switch and pray for the best with the photographers and reception :( . It just means more to me to have family there than the date. Thanks for the support!
  • Have people booked their flights yet?

  • I hear you on Excalibur; that is a crazy rate for that hotel!

If people haven't book their flights yet, I would change it to the next weekend. If you do change it lock in your Aria rates ASAP.

We got married on May 3rd, which was a fight weekend with Mayweather. We locked in our prices at aria prior to the announcement of the fight. I watched the website and the prices literally doubled, over night for our weekend. I was so thankful we locked in those prices.

  • Okay, question for those of you who wed or have been to Vegas - my wedding isn't until October 1, 2015, and so I can't book just yet...however, I'm thinking maybe I should book when they open up flights in about 6 months from now? Or should I hold off a little later?? Obviously, I would like to lock in the best rates. Also, we fly Alaska Airlines so I try to keep my eyes open for deals.

  • @vegasbride2015 I am also Oct 2015. I have been wondering the best time to book hotel and flights too and if working with a travel agent is helpful. I have not come across any info yet.
  • @Futuremrshauger I think we have to wait at least 6 months in advance which puts us at around April for most airlines. I have a mileage account with Alaska and looks like I will get one RT flight for free so I will be sooooo on that!

  • Flights are rarely cheapest at six months out; they know that typically someone booking that far in advance has something important scheduled and it has to be that exact time.  I'm not sure about Alaska Airline's policies, but I'm going to guess since they're part of Sky Team that they stink just like Delta lol.  We flew Southwest outbound and I booked early and flights dropped later, so I was able to call in and have that flight credited back and re-booked at the new rate, but I fly Delta a lot for work and I know they don't let you do that so who knows.

If the rate at six months is reasonable then you don't necessarily have to wait, but I tend to find flight are cheaper in the 3 to 2 months left range if it's domestic.  I only frequent about eight airports though so ymmv depending on area of the country.

  • Usually if your flying domestic you want to book about 3-4 months in advance for the best pricing and 5-6 months if your flying international. Best thing to do is use Kayak.com they have a little bar graph that tells you the percent the price is likely to drop/rise. Check frequently and clear your cookies regularly.

Last year I was planning to fly from FL > Tokyo, Japan. Flights were running $1200 round trip. I found that sweet spot at around 5 months and ended up getting the flight at $800 round trip during Japan's busiest travel season. A week later I checked the flights again and they went up to $1300.

I know its exciting to get your flights booked ASAP, but there not going to sell out. I recommend waiting and save a chunk of change if you can.

Thank you! We will wait. Thank you to @vegasgroom as well!

Of course, I've always read that booking on Tuesday afternoon gets you the best rates. Most places agree that 6-7 weeks ahead of time is key, but you'll want to adjust for things like special events and holidays. For your situation, I'd say three months is best.
  • Yeah no way would I do 3-7 weeks. Not a fan of hitting it that close.

  • We travel to Las Vegas from Philadelphia every October.  Only once have I found that booking on the weekend was cheaper, it as a SW weekend flight sale.

Over the years we have found that we want non stop flights and no redeye returns so we know that those choices will cost us more.

In general we have found that around 3 months out is when the flights are the cheapest.

Glad to hear you were able to rebook all of your vendors!
