Let's talk about... Sheets!

I need/want to buy some new ones and I am willing to splurge for something extra worth it.

Right now I have some normal 100% cotton sheets (no clue the thread count), which are comfortable and fine but last weekend they became discolored (they are white) in the wash as an orange towel was mixed in with them by accident. So, since I need to buy some new ones anyway, I thought to get something really special. The winter is coming and FI and I are big weekend bed hibernators, especially when its chilly outside, so a comfortable bed is key in our home.

That being said, does anyone have experience buying those can't eat, can't sleep (anywhere else), reach for the stars, over the fence kind of sheets.Those sheets that are so soft and cozy that sleeping is a luxury.

I never bought fancy pants sheets before so I don't really know what I am looking for in terms of characteristics.

Anyone care to share their sheet shopping experiences and what you look for when you want to recreate a 5-star presidential suite-type bed experience in your bedroom?

I might mention though that I don't have a Macy's nearby and was thinking to purchase on Amazon if possible. Just subscribed for Premium and want to take advantage of the Free Shipping

I was going to recommend the exact same sheets @beethery did, haha. They're incredible and not much money for what you're getting.

In general, though, thread count isn't everything when it comes to sheets. If you have a lower thread count cotton sheet with sateen in it, those are also going to be super soft. And, on the opposite end, if you have a super high thread count sheet, those sheets are typically going to be a little stiffer (even if the cotton makes them super soft), and some people don't like that. The "feel test" is important when you're shopping for sheets -- look for something relatively high thread count (say, 500+), but feel them first to see if you like them. Not all 500+ thread count feels the same.

These ones aren't expensive, but I'm obsessed with my Organic Cotton sheets from Target's Threshold line. They're so so soft.

I also am not so lucky to have a Target by me (*tears*) and I miss it oh so much. The closest thing to me that would be similiar is a store called Carrefour. I have bought sheets from there in the past and they left a lot to be desired.

Has anyone actually both the sheets that are provided in hotels, such as HERE and/or HERE <- clickies ??

Do you have a TJ Maxx or Marshall's near you? They tend to have a good selection of nice sheets.

FI and I just recently bought new sheets and a new memory foam mattress pad and OMG it is amazing. We had had a nice set of sheets for five years and finally they got a tear in them a couple of months ago. They were the only set we had and we just washed them every weekend. My mom gave us a jersey set once the old ones ripped to make do until we could get a new set. I was going to suggest the same thing. Their Ralph Lauren & Calvin Klein sheets are great, and run about $60-80 per set.

If you're ordering online check Overstock too. We have some 1000 thread count (FI is a sheet snob) white sheets from there that are great. I have no idea what brand they are, though.

I should also have mentioned that I have a macy's card and take advantage of sales/coupons for when I buy bedding there. I think I got them for $45 the last time I picked some up.

I have fancy, very high thread count and very expensive supima cotton sheets, but I only like the way they feel freshly ironed, lol. But we also have a pair of sheets made from birch and another from bamboo and they are amazing. Brushed finish, sooooo soft, and warm in winter/cool in summer. And they weren't expensive and just came from Bed Bath and Beyond.

I second the reco of the Target organic cotton ones. We registered for those for the spare bedroom, but when we got them and felt how awesome they are I added the size for the master. AND they're freakin' geniuses because they sew a little label inside the fitted sheet saying which is the end and which is the side.

For winter, I swear by these. <clicky> Yes they're fleece, not flannel. They breathe well though and don't get super hot, just snuggly warm. I buy them at JCPenney though because they often have them 50% off.

I have THESE and THESE, from the same brand. The only caveat is that I think they are a little pricey for the thread count. However, I love how soft they are. The Sateen is good for summer and I like the Jersey for winter (I live in Southern California, so please take the term "winter" with a grain of salt).

I love Pure Beech sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond, but they don't fit my super-deep mattress, so I got the deep ones from Target that come separately, not in a pack (we dont actually use the top sheet).

I'm an admitted sheet snob/addict and I swear by high thread count sheet sets (I'm talking 400-600 count) because I've found they hold up better through many washes. The low thread count stuff is nice at first, but then gets scratchy after a few cycles (whereas I've have my "favorite-can't-get-out-of-bed-cause-it's-too-comfy" set for a few years with no signs of wear). Ross has the high counts for about $40, so if you have one of those near you, it might be worth a visit.
