TMI: Coloscopy (sp?)

Anyone ever have a biopsy done after you had one from an abnormal pap?    I had one and am experiencing some major cramping.  If you had cramping, does it last long.   Considering I never get cramps during my period (just headaches) this experience of cramping is completely foreign to me and OUCH!!!!

Yeah, I've had like 4 of them plus a LEEP. Some minor cramping is normal (as is spotting, and it'll be a gross color) and should only last a day or two.

ETA I see you said major - how major is it? Major because you're not used to any cramping, or double over in pain major?

  • I'd define it as hunching over slightly sometimes more slightly if stronger cramp hits?   No spotting though.   Still functioning at work so it's not brutal, but this sucks! Lol.  That being said - does it tend to last for long.
  • My completely non-medical advice is to take an anti-inflammatory and call the doctor if it still hurts in the morning, or if you start bleeding more than a little bit along with the cramping. You should double-check your discharge paperwork and see if they mentioned any other precautions.

  • A few years ago I had a couple biopsies then a LEEP procedure done. The LEEP knocked me on my ass for the remainder of the day, but I was OK by the next day.

Yes some cramping and discolored discharge are normal.

As far as I understand the Colposcopy is diagnostic where as the LEEP is to actually remove the concerning area - so I think the LEEP I had was slightly more invasive than the Colposcopy you had . . . . I felt 100% back to normal within 48hrs - so hopefully sooner than that for you.

  • Ok thanks ladies.  I wasn't expecting this, I was expecting bleeding as that's what he told me to expect.  But so far no bleeding just cramping. :(
  • Yeah - I had moderate-severe cramping DURING each procedure, then mild-moderate cramping throughout the rest of the day. I was told it was a possibility - but not 100% of patients get the cramps.

Oh man yeah the cramping during the procedure was the pits.

Your body isn't used to being spread open like that. It's normal for your muscles to revolt.

  • I have had one done twice and never really had the cramping issues, though I was warned about it. So sorry you are having this issue!!!

  • Ugh, that stinks. Sending you lots of hugs and chocolate.

I've had two of them, and I had major cramping that lasted into the next day. But if it continues or you have significant bleeding, definitely call your doctor.

Yes I have!  My stupid cells are being dumb and not going away/back to normal on their own, so my Dr. is watching it/checking on them every six months or so.  I don't think I experienced bad cramping after the biopsy, though.  Did your Dr. say anyhting about it?
ETA I have low grade CIN

  • Ugh I am so sorry you're dealing with this.

I had 3 done in the past and I remember feeling like I had some cramping for several hours after the procedure. Granted I had 6 biopsies done so I felt like I was ripped apart during it and can't recall how bad it was after the fact. My gyn told me to take ibuprofen or Tylenol before the procedure to help with that but, I ended up forgetting. I took it after though and that helped a lot so that would be my advice to you but, I am not a doctor so I'd reach out to them if your cramping doesn't get better.

Thanks for all the insight and help.  Major cramping lasted a few hours, then went down to mild cramping until I went to bed.  Woke up with minor soreness but no cramping and still nothing as far as bleeding goes.   Looking back it wasn't terribly horrible but Oh My Gosh I do not want to experience that again.

Again - thanks for your input and support. :)
