This is just a funny story I thought I'd share. I'll start with a bit of context so you can see how the yellow shoes really don't fit with the theme...
My fiance and I are getting married during an evening winter ceremony. The ceremony site is a room in an old hotel. The walls are made of stone, the floors are made of old hardwood. It will be dark, and there will be many candles in the ceremony room. It's a very intimate, romantic wedding. Our decor is mainly candles in mercury style votives, old bronze-coloured vases, and earthy flowers in ivory, dark green, and berry tones. I've tried to keep it as simple as possible (and in keeping with our romantic evening wedding) for my bridesmaids by asking them to wear any black cocktail dress and black shoes. Well, my sister, who is one of my best friends, called me yesterday to tell me that she had found her dress (it's gorgeous!) and her dream shoes! It turns out, the shoes are mustard yellow. Yep. Mustard yellow. There is no yellow anywhere in this wedding.
I didn't really know how to react when she told me. She noticed that I wasn't very enthusiastic about her shoes on the phone, but I figured I'd think about it before telling her I really didn't like the idea (though my initial reaction was just to start laughing at how ridiculous it was).
She ended up telling my mom about her yellow shoes, who told her in no uncertain terms that these do not fit with the wedding theme (I hadn't told my mom about the shoes). After their talk, my sister told me that she won't wear them for the pictures and ceremony, but she may change into them later in the evening.
This whole situation is just so funny… Black cocktail dresses and black pumps were just too simple for my wonderfully artistic and eccentric sister… I think we'll end up with a picture of her in them just for fun!
