October 2015 Weddings

10/4/15

Good morning, all!

Wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Alyssa and we are getting married 10/4/15!

That being said, would love to hear from some other brides getting married the same weekend. We are in the midwest (STL) and there is a chance it will be still warm due to the extended "Indian Summers" we have been having here.... and then there is a chance it will be very cold and dreary. Not sure if I should be reading the almanac... but one of the places we are looking at has an outdoor heated tent type thing for the ceremony, then indoor reception. My gown is a sweetheart neckline, strapless, and already purchased.... so the dress is not changing regardless of the weather! Haha

How are the rest of you feeling about the weather and your dress? And do you have some anxiety about booking a venue NOW knowing you have NO clue how the weather will be in your location next year?

Re: 10/4/15

  • Hi!!  Congrats :)  We are getting married the same weekend (10/3) in New England, so I totally feel you on the weather worries - it can be very unpredictable here.  It could be warm and sunny or it could be snowing!!  I also already have my dress (strapless with a train) and we are planning our ceremony outdoors with reception inside (same venue).  We have a backup plan for the ceremony inside the reception venue if the weather is awful, which isn't ideal but necessary.  Honestly I am trying not to think about it too much - it is impossible to plan for it this far out beyond having a backup plan for anything outdoors.  We considered a tent reception when we were first looking at venues - people do it in the fall here all the time, they just rent heaters - so I think you will be fine with your current set-up.

I am trying to just let it be what it will be - if it's freezing out the week before, maybe I'll buy a cute shawl or something for over my dress, or an umbrella for pics if it's raining.  Just try to keep it in perspective - weather is SO beyond our control, the only important thing is that we actually get married that day!  Hopefully I will still be this level-headed about it when the actual day comes, haha.  Truthfully - as long as whatever venue you choose has a viable back-up plan in case of bad weather, it's not worth your worries!!

    Good luck with planning!

  • Yes! And St. Louis can experience all four seasons in ONE week.... Sigh...

Yeah, the one location we are looking at is indoor/indoor same site.

The other is outdoor/indoor same site.

But then we are also looking at two different sites for wedding and reception. The one we are seeing Wednesday is a pretty popular "go-to" place that just started offering STEEP discounts for Sunday weddings and combined ceremony and reception discount at the same site.  So... there's that.

So many unpredictable factors, but I have been trying to read the reviews on theknot vendor sites to see what month their weddings were and what they had to say about the ceremony and reception sites in October. Hahaha!

  • Getting married same weekend 10/2/15....our venue has a beautiful garden. If the weather is crappy they have a beautiful inside space for us. Getting married in Northern New Jersey. So hopefully it's still early October and the weather will be perfect.
  • What are your dresses like? Did you buy in hopes that it would still be warm? It usually does not get cold in St. Louis until roughly Halloween. Until then its a mix bag of heat, mild weather, beautiful days, and rain. LOL

My dress is a Mori Lee by Madeline Gardner strapless gown. I love it too much to part with it over the weather.

  • Nope your not. I don't want to be hot and sweaty lol.
  • We went to our first venue tonight it its completely indoor so weather isn't an issue for this one... and honestly, it was completely all inclusive. House staff, reception, ceremony, add ons, dining, bar... security.. parking, etc.

  • Hi Alyssa!

My name is Alyssa and my fiance Jim and I are also getting married 10/4/2015 here in New Hampshire!

I am a little hesitant since we are having an outdoor ceremony (it can move inside) but the fall foliage is beautiful here and we are fingers crossed for a beautiful and not too hot of a day!

    Good luck planning!

  • Our date is still up in the air. Originally we had decided on 10/4 but now we might change it to the 3rd or 10th. The venue is a state park that doesn't fill up so no worries on setting the exact date yet. We should know for sure by the end of the week. Definitely by the 10th, though!
  • Booked our venue Monday night!!! It's official.... deposits are down on the DJ, the Venue, and the Photographer will be done tomorrow!!!

  • We were supposed to have 10/11/15 (day before Columbus Day), but the venue made a mistake and gave away our date (serious bummer... we were really excited about the holiday weekend). But now we're 10/4/15! Hey, despite the mixup, at least we get to be married a week sooner! :)
  • I'm 10/3/15 right outside of Philadelphia. Hoping for nice warm weather :) but if not, my venue has an indoor space too which I love just as much as the outdoor spot. We might even decide to do the ceremony inside even if it IS nice and just do cocktail hour outside. I haven't gotten my dress yet but I'm going sleeveless and/or strapless either way!
