Bored - Weddingstorming

So with the clock ticking down, and me being super bored at work, I've decided to start thinking about some ideas for the wedding. Our wedding will be at the Central Park Boathouse in NYC. One of the ideas I had was that instead of assigning each table a number, we could assign them a NYC neighborhood (Chelsea, Upper Westside, DUMBO, etc.) Instead of regular place cards, maybe we can put out Metro Cards with each persons name and table name. I googled some stuff and this is what I'm thinking of:

I was also thinking that we can use real Metro Cards. Each fare is $2.50 (I think) these days, but now you have to pay for the damn card if you are purchasing it for the first time. Each card is $1, and it would be something that people would be able to keep and use, if they wish. And Metro Cards are good for the subway and bus, which almost everyone in NY takes. It would be a practical place card!

What do you guys think? We would like to incorporate some personal touches in our wedding, and we both love New York and everything about this city, so I thought maybe this would be a nice way to incorporate some touches about the city we love. So is this a cool idea, or is it lame and cheesy? I'm just bouncing ideas all over the place right now, so any suggestions are welcome :)

I think it's adorable! The only suggestion would be yo make sure the names are big enough to read. I was at a wedding where the escort cards / favors had the names written so small that we were all hovered over the table trying to find it.

And really, the Central Park Boathouse??? Love it love it love it. I felt a stab of venue envy, because that is really cool. And with a location like that, you almost have to give a nod to New York.

Yup. Totally love it. We have similar in Boston (Charlie Card) and I'd think it were really neat to get one.

Yay! Thanks guys :) FI really likes the idea, too, so it's a keeper! Great idea, @sarahbear31. Especially for the older folks or people like my mom and FMIL who always forget to wear reading glasses and then need the dinner menu read aloud to them. @ohannabelle‌, definitely wanted to give a nod to NY!

    I love the idea.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I think this is so cute! Practical, and a good way to incorporate the theme.  I almost did this (our table numbers are subway stops) but wimped out and went with black place cards.  Our seating chart is a subway map.  I'm waiting on some responses so it's not done but when it is I can post pics if you want some inspiration.  I love the boathouse, such a beautiful venue!

Yeah, I think the look of this is totally adorable.  A few practical notes, though:

For more people who live in NYC, this is probably useless, right?  Everyone I know has an EZPay monthly Metrocard.  And anybody who's visiting the city just for your wedding has probably already bought the amount of Metrocard they think they'll need for the weekend, so they may not need/ want to use an extra single-fare card.

I guess the people who want them will probably end up collecting them from people who don't.  And I love the look of it for a Central Park wedding with an NYC theme.

Thanks @ctyankeebride- I would love to see pics!

Yep I thought of that too, @jcbride2015. Most people have their monthly cards, etc. I kinda thought of it like, well we're going to spend money on the place cards anyways, so might as well make them *somewhat* practical. I also thought the same thing you did about the out of towners! I figured that people would keep them just in case (you never know when you'll lost your card!). I actually didn't think that some people would collect them from others. I would personally definitely do that, because I don't have a monthly and tend to lose mine a lot. Great mind think alike ;)

@pinkcow13 If you have the EZPay card, you can lose it a couple times a year and they will cancel it and replace it for you.  I've never lost mine but it's good insurance to have.

Oh, you're actually right about this, @jcbride2015. I used to have it when I lived in BK and I remember that was one of the perks that they offered. Although, if I'm not mistaken, does it take a bit of a while? , I would think you would be reimbursed for anything incurred during the time period in which it went missing? FI also thought that we could just purchase place cards that resembled MetroCards (the ones above are definitely not real ones), but I would think they would be more expensive. Although they would come with less the work. And this is just me assuming these things, since I didn't really delve too deep into this idea yet.

Thanks!! The boathouse is pretty amazing. FI and I went over the summer to also have a drink, and I was so exited that we were getting married there. I want to go again in the next few weeks while the weather is still nice here.
