Spinoff - NWR: baby shower favors

@novella1186 got me thinking about favors and I didn't want to thread-jack. I'm hosting a baby shower next month and I don't know what to do for favors. I know they aren't necessary, of course, but I want to do something. Obviously they're going to be edible. If I've learned anything from TK, it's that favors shall be edible.

A little background: The mom lives in New Orleans, it's their first kid and she's not finding out the sex.

  • little bags of mini candies, or pink and blue m&ms?

  • My sister had a bee theme and the favors were little honeycomb soaps.

  • At a friend's shower they did little bags of caramel/cheddar popcorn with a sticker that said "Ready to Pop".  It was cute (if that's what you're going for :)) and yummy!
  • We always do chocolate favors for any type of shower in my circle. Because chocolate.
  • For my sister's shower, we did little molded soaps shaped like acorns and leaves that my mom and her husband made (shower had a sort of baby woodland creatures theme, squirrels and owls and whatnot) and a cello baggie with two of the chunky twisted sourdough pretzels dipped in chocolate and nonpariels (one dark chocolate with pink and one white chocolate with blue).

  • I've only been to a few baby showers. The best favor I've received was a little bottle of wine! It had a cutsey poem on it: "Baby Smith is coming, the time is near, when you get the big news open your bottle and send your cheers!" I was willing to forgive the cutesy poem though because wine.

I drank the bottle when I got home. I didn't think people would actually wait for the baby to be born until people posted pictures on mom's facebook wall of them drinking the wine the day the baby was born.
  • We've done chocolate lollipops and/or chocolate-covered pretzel rods at most of the baby showers I've gone to. Easy to make and always end up being popular.

  • Cookies are always good. Or, if people are coming from out of town, a local treat. (Fudge from that family-owned shop, cupcakes from the bakery down the street...)

  • I went to a baby shower with awesome chocolate lollipop things as favors. I thought they were just part of the table decoration so I ate like 6 of them before I realized I was only supposed to get one. They were delicious! I then let my mom and friends know that I went ahead and ate theirs for them :)

I am dying to make onesie cookies now. Somebody go get pregnant, quick.
  • I want to make these onesie cookies in pastel colors, with white lace trim, and little pearl nonpareil buttons. Get on it, girls. My daughter said no. She's so selfish.

Yesterday I bought sprinkles in the shape of cows, pigs, chickens, and ducks. I need an excuse to use them!
