Wedding Woes

Yay Thursday!

Thursdays are my productive days, for whatever reason.  I just always seem to get things done.

I decided to try a breakfast smoothie.  I chose peanut butter banana with milk, oats and ice.  This thing is not good.  I like pb, but not like this.  I think my smoothies need to be fruity only.  Tomorrow I'm making it with strawberries.  Blech, I don't know if I can even make myself finish this.

  • We should be getting cable and internet installed at the house today!!  YAY!!

    But I have to work in the office tomorrow, BUT it's because I'm getting a new computer.  That means I've avoided another trip into the office.  YAY!! 

    In all honesty, it hasn't been that bad being in the office.  I'm switching to a different supervisor next week and he and I don't really know each other that well (even though we've worked here the same amount of time...We've never been in the same department until now)...So I've gotten some face time with him (jury's still out on him...but I have a feel for what I'm working with. ;)

    Today is my work-aversary.  14 years.  Damn.  For something I got into on a whim, I can say it's worked out pretty well.  

    The kids are getting more and more adjusted.  DefConn is still crying every day at drop-off and I guess he gets sad when other parents show up for their kids before we get there.  But he's coming along.  The kiddo is climbing the walls at the house.  SIL is heading over there today with my nieces to hang out.  I'm ready for him to go back to school.  He's got another week of fall break.  I need to go stock up on wine, ha. 
  • LOL.  Sucks about the smoothie.  I am not a "drink my meal" type of gal.  Unless it's beer, then game on.

    I'm at work, but distracted per usual.  Have the house inspection at the new house today, so I'm meeting the inspector, H and maybe our realtor at the house for a walk through. 

    My weeks have been so chopped up lately.  Good and bad, but I'm trying.  Kind of.  Maybe.


  • PB in smoothies doesn't work for me.  It just makes me thirsty.  I can do almond butter though.

    I might find that I'm the same way.  I looked at it when I finished making it and thought "this isn't going to work."  I might just need to stick with healthier regular breakfast.
  • I definitely have to change up my breakfast, I'm over the protein bar thing.  I think I have to change in about every quarter.  I get burnt out on things.  I'm finding I am wanting my random buckwheat/coconut oil/pineapple concoction again.  SO MUCH WORK.

    What is the texture like with oats in it?  Just curious. I love oatmeal, but I've never tried oats in a smoothie, so I'm intrigued.

    I can't get going this morning.  So here I am.  Maybe I'll make a cup of tea and see if that helps.  Tazo pumpkin spice chai is yummy and makes my office smell amazing, but it's really strong.  I usually like my tea on the stronger side, but I had to shave a couple of minutes off their suggested steeping time because it was undrinkable otherwise.  At least it will compensate for the temperature in here, which feels like it's about 65 right now. 

    Also, my right jawline is all broken out and it's gross.  I usually don't have breakouts, so I'm going to blame hormones from weaning DS.

    This morning is dreary, but at least it's WFH day today, tons of coding reviews (translation: pissing matches) and other related items today....eh , having a hard time getting in gear.

    The texture is pretty much what you would think oats in a smoothie would be like.  I think that I could have used more ice cubes and blended a bit longer.  They weren't whole or anything, but you can definitely tell they were there.  I didn't mind the texture at all and could taste the oats.

    Yogurt sounds much better.  I'll give it a try.

    I love full-fat yogurt, even though I shouldn't.  Greek Gods is the best.
  • I really like putting half of an avocado in mine.  It makes it so creamy.  Instead of using real peanut butter, I like using the PB stuff.  Flavor of PB without all the heaviness.  

    I have to make myself drink smoothies though.  I'm just not a breakfast person in general.  It always seems to hurt my stomach a bit.  If I can wait an hour or two, I'm much happier.  But that screws everything up with the 8-5 schedule.
  • I also recommend almond milk, vanilla if you haven't tried.  And I second, third and fourth Heffa's love of full-fat Greek Gods.  I don't like fat free stuff, ever.

    Is that the powdered stuff?  I've been so curious about it.  I saw their directions for reconstituting it with water and wanted to gag a little--pass.  Your idea seems much better.
  • The pb taste was just too overwhelming and I even used a tiny bit less than the recipe called.  I really think I need to stick to fruits if I'm going to do smoothies.  I couldn't even drink half of it.

    My main breakfast problem is that I wait until I'm starving to eat, which is usually after 10am.  Half the time I make a breakfast meal, the other half is more like a lunch.  But this throws me off because I'm not hungry at lunchtime.  So I start to get snacky after 1:00 and graze pretty much all afternoon because supper isn't too far off.  I end up eating too much all day.

    I'm trying to get myself on the right schedule, but I have to do it gradually or it won't work for me.
  • SIL loves PB2 and says it does go well in shakes. 
  • Yep.  I've only ever used it in recipes that I didn't want to use our PB in b/c of expense.  So, I've never just added the water and used it by itself.  It's really good in shakes/smoothies.

    Also, the PB2 is tasty as well.  Both are much cheaper if you buy in bulk on Amazon.
  • I am far from the picture of health, so take this with a grain of salt, but most dietitians will tell you that you shouldn't drink any of your meals.  
  • DK was thinking of trying the PB powder in his next beer - make a "PB Cup Stout" - so dark chocolate and PB powder for flavor. (he's trying to avoid all of the fat/oils in natural PB)

    my smoothies are usually plain greek yogurt, milk, frozen fruit, flax seeds, ice and honey
    I've also done greek yogurt, chia seeds soaked in coconut water, frozen fruit, ice and honey 
    I also use chocolate Shakeology - for those I use frozen fruit (strawberries are my favorite), milk, ice, shakeology powder and flaxseeds - I've also added nutella (which was fantastic, but more fat/calories)
    sometimes i use almond milk, but usually just use skim. 
  • Barbie, I swear I've read an article/blog about someone doing that.  I'll see if I can find it.  DH might remember more than I do and know where it is.
  • M2 makes awesome smoothies, probably because she loads in the honey.  I just blend spinach and flax seed then freeze.  Let her have at whatever fruit we have fresh or froze, top with honey and blend.

    I don't even want to admit what I spent my morning doing, but it involved making an ice tray filled with snakes and spiders.  6let loved helping.

    The memorial for DH's grandpa is Saturday and I'm being a bit side eyey.  They are having it catered by Donato's pizza.  If that was his favorite food I'd get it, but it wasn't.  They are having basically having a 6 yo bday party for a funeral and I'm betting there will not be nearly enough.

  • My mom loves PB2 but I can't stomach the stuff. I don't have much of a taste for peanut butter to begin with though.

    I'm exhausted today. DH and I went to bed early last night but I couldn't sleep because I have a million things going on in my head. Both kids were up last night multiple times due to their sickness. They never want DH- they always want me and DD will wail "Mamamamama" until I come. I feel like 2014 has been the year of many little annoying things. I just want a break from some of this small stuff. Blech.

    This weekend we are back at my parent's house while DH tries to finish the rest of the tiling downstairs. It's going pretty good but I'm impatient. I really love how it all looks but I am totally stumped on rugs. Right now my downstairs sounds like an echo chamber.
