Disney's The Lion King the Musical?

We just bought tickets to see The Lion King in a few weeks...  Neither one of us have seen it, but everyone says it is wonderful.

How many of you have seen it?  Thoughts?

I loved the move and absolutely ADORED the soundtrack, especially the score so I'm sure it will be fabulous.

  • I am so jealous! I've never seen it on stage but have heard it is AMAZING and one of the best Broadway shows there is.

    Have an amazing time!

I would love to see it in NYC but I will settle for the touring company.  :)  I've seen Wicked (NYC and touring) and Les Mis (London) and both were great.

I'm just sad I have to wait a few weeks.  lol

  • I saw it when it was on tour and really enjoyed it.  It was longer than I expected (close to two hours, IIRC?), but that was on me:  I thought, like kid movies, that it would be shorter than a typical musical, and it was not.  A little research would have cleared that up ahead of time.  But yes, it was really impressive, particularly the costumes and the elaborate puppetry.  And it was just different enough from the movie that it wasn't a complete rehash, there were some new and different elements to keep it interesting.
  • We talked about seeing it in London next time we go. DH is obsessed with seeing a show in London, but I've seen a few NYC Broadway shows, so I'm kind of indifferent.

  • I have seen many a fancy broadway, and the Lion King Musical put on by a random college in Michigan has by far been my favorite thing I've ever seen.

And I saw Wicked in Chicago.

  • Love! Love! Love!
  • I saw it a couple years ago when it came to Boston. I was a little iffy on seeing it but the it was very well done. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
  • I saw it and loved it. The costumes and puppetry are amazing.

  • Lion King is very, very good. I saw it on Broadway, so I don't know how the traveling production is, but it has awesome music.

  • I saw it about 10 years ago. If you like the music from the movie, you will love it.

  • I saw it when it first opened on Broadway and loved it. Even if you aren't a huge musicals fan, the set design, costuming, puppetry, etc is mesmerizing. I think you'll have a great time!

  • Loved it!  The stage is magical.  I'm not a musical person at all--I'd pay to NOT sit through something like Annie--but this was the exception.  Husband splurged on pricey tix for close seats in Chicago when we started dating.  Amazing.
  • I really liked it.

  • I saw it in my hometown, so definitely not on Broadway, and it was still so beautiful that my mom and I both cried during the opening number. It's incredible.

  • Best show I've ever been to hands down. Saw them the traveling production when they were in Anchorage, AK. I went into it with a negative attitude and they blew me away! I've been saying for years that I want to see it again. Jealous!!

  • It's one of my favorite musicals! Of course the puppetry and costumes are amazing. But my favorite part is how they changed the music. A South African composer (who is actually the singer during Circle of Life in the movie) wrote a bunch of new music. He also gave all the original songs a more African feel. It's great.

I also have a girl-crush on the lady who plays Nala (Heather Headley) in the Original Broadway Cast, so I always suggest the recording. She's great.

I've seen it in London and twice when it came to Minneapolis. I think you guys are going to have a fabulous time :)

  • Whew, I'm glad everyone else loves it.  I wasn't too concerned but after I bought the tickets I was like "what if we hate it".  lol

I went with some friends last winter to the Nutcracker and I was "meh" about it.  I'm glad I saw it but I have no desire to go see it again.

  • I just remembered this story about when I went to see it.

My friend and I were so into the show that when this giant spider came down from the ceiling to hang right in front of our eyes it took us a few minutes to realize it wasn't part of the show. I batted it away from me without thinking into a lady's hair. I think I was able to pull it out and awkwardly tell her why I was in her hair and fling it to the ground.

  • I saw it 10 years ago or so when it came to Houston.

    AMAZING.

    Enjoy!!!!!
  • It is amazing! I get Broadway acrosss America tickets every year and this is coming back to my area this year so I'm going to get to see it again. I can't wait.
  • It is really, really good.  It had the potential to be cheesy and childish, but it's AMAZINGLY well done.  Have a blast!

This is terrifying.  Just reading about it scares me.

  • I've seen The Lion King twice. Once in Vegas and the other time in LA.

I cried during the first opening act. It's so hard not to sing out loud during the musical.

    Hope you enjoy it!

I got tickets to see Wicked in December with my husband. It is his first time and my 10th time seeing it!

    I love musicals!
Momma Slothie got tickets for me, H, and my parents to see it when we're back home over Christmas!  I'm so excited.  I read the book/memorized the soundtrack back in college, but never got around to seeing it...I'm stoked.
