Supportive bra that doesn't create too much cleavage

My dress, WToo Persiphone, has a V neck.  I was hoping to avoid having to fuss with a bra by having bust cups added, but they are just not working out.  They create too much cleavage and I feel uncomfortable and “unsupported”.  I am a 34DD.

So I am looking for a bra.  The back of the dress is illusion but there is some lace in the lower part so I don’t know what actually “works”.  I don't want it to show.  Would a skin colored bra show under the illusion?  Clear straps?  What about a low back bra?  Do stick ons work for fuller busted girls??   I could use some advice please.

Re: Supportive bra that doesn't create too much cleavage

  • Your dress is absolutely beautiful!!!

I'm not a large chested woman so I can't give advice about what would provide sufficient support, but I've worn dresses with sheer straps and/or back. If your bra has any type of strap (clear or skin tone) it will show through because the netting on the dress straps is so thin. I'm not saying it's necessarily a big deal, but it'll show so you have to decide whether that bothers you.

You could maybe consider some type of skin stone spanx or other shapewear that is strapless with a low back. I don't know whether it will show through.

It's too bad that the cups aren't working because it seems like that would be easiest. Could they try another, more supportive kind that creates less cleavage?

Have you tried those bras with sticky sides? I wore one when I was in my brother's wedding last summer; the back of the dress dipped down low so a regular bra wasn't an option for me.
This is the link of one similar to what I used.

They won't let you try it on in the store, but it can be returned if it doesn't work out.

  • I am a C (measure a D) and I found the sticky ones to work pretty well.  I had the sticky cup kind that clipped in the middle.  Honestly, with that dress, it seems like it would be hard to keep from having cleavage no matter what type of bra you wear.
  • Have you tried taping them? Good strong double-sided hollywood tape will let you make your boobs sit pretty much any way you like. I'm a 28F and I use it a lot to tone down my cleavage in dresses.

  • I am a 32DDD.  VS has bras that wrap around for backless dresses.  I also have a bra with sticky sides that has worked surprisingly well (never would have expected it with my size).  I got my sticky bra from one of those little cheapy stores in the mall.

I would also look for specialty bra stores that may offer more options/sizes than your traditional VS.  You might also be able to find shape wear that is low back with a built in bra.  If your breasts sit well on their own, the hollywood tape could also be a good option.  Good luck!

  • I have tried some stick on bras (the kind where it is like a bra with some adhesive) and wasn't too happy with them. I used to have a NuBra which was all sticky and I did like it but it wore out eventually.

Aside from a plunge bra (which will create a lot of cleavage) my concern would be that with your cup size there aren't going to be options much better than cups.

Could the seamstress put in cups that don't have padding maybe?

  • Ok, and three posts in a row makes me look crazily obsessed with your bra situation like a weirdo, but have you tried a long line plunge back bra? They vary in how low they go in back so you'd need to do some experiments on which one would work.
