How did you ladies actually decide on a dress?!

I feel like one of the great downfalls of being a Libra is being so so so indecisive. I tried on dresses last week and today, but never found one where I had that moment...you know where I just knew it was it. Did any of you ladies pick a dress but didn't have that "moment"?

Right now I'm between two dresses...and they are so different. But both of them make me hesitate. The Allure ballgown I absolutely love, but I'm not sure if it's how I want to look on my wedding day. And the Maggie Sottero lace dress, I love the way it looks on me, but I feel like it's too typical of a wedding dress....I want something that makes it a little different, and unexpected (which I feel like the ballgown does).

I'm still going to keep looking, but do any of you ladies have some advice? Thanks!

lol. im a libra too and i actually tried on both these. i loves emma.. but ended up having my dress made cause i couldn't decide. lol sorry I'm no help..

TBH, I don't think there's anything "unexpected" about either of those dresses. But that's ok - most wedding dresses look like wedding dresses! If you're hesitating though, neither of these is your dress. Whether it's "different" or not, you should love your dress when you put it on. Maybe it's not some tearfilled, joyful moment in front of the mirror like they show on TV, but you'll be more sure than this.

When I bought my dress, it wasn't actually the dress itself that sold me, it was the beaded sash I added. (below) Once I found it, I re-tried on a few dresses that I loved and liked this combination the best. So that's something to keep in mind that could make your choice a little more unique.

I love the Maggie dress. Maybe you could try different accessories with the dresses (like on SYTTD: Atlanta when they jack the brides up) to make more of a complete look. If that doesn't do anything for you, maybe keep looking.

I went in looking for the plainest dress possible. No lace, no ruffles, no sparkle....just plain satin. I found one that I really liked, but then the woman brought out another option. At first, I just shook my head, but then she said "Just try it on". I did, and I just KNEW that this was it. It was out of my price range, but then I decided I'd find a way to cut out something out somewhere to pay for it.

And then I went to the register, rang it up, and found out it was on clearance and ended up being $100 UNDER my budget. So in other words, I got really lucky (and had a great person helping me at the dress shop, who nudged me out of my comfort zone)

PS: Not me in the pic....this is the Google Search image of the dress. I get to wear it in less than 2 weeks!!!

There are thousands of dresses out there and you can't try them all. You don't need the one, perfect dress. (Though kudos to you if you find it!) You need a dress that makes your feel beautiful and fits your wedding style, venue, and budget.

I am a Libra as well. I had tried on a lot of dress. I was actually having the same question to my Maid of Honor and My mother. I was worried I would never have that moment. Well recently I just got my dress. I ended up trying on my top two dress again. I didn't look at myself until I was finally in the dress. And honestly, it was when I tried the 2nd of the two dresses on that I knew which dress I wanted. I waited till I was completely in it and then looked and I just took inventory of my feelings. And then I just knew. I am completely happy with my choice. I never really had that moment where I was crying or where the skies parted. I just looked at myself and realized. I wanted to marry my fiancé in this dress. And I could picture the photos and I knew it was exactly what I wanted.

If you are not sure you can always keep going back and trying them on. That is what I did, hence the reason I gave myself 4 months to pick a dress. Because I am a planner and knew it would take me a while to decide. Good Luck!! I am sure that you will look beautiful on your wedding day.

I didn't think I was the type to have "the moment". However, I did have it, but it wasn't like what most describe. I didn't cry. I just knew it was the right dress, even though the first time I tried it on it was in the wrong size (I ordered from Zappos and had the right size within a few days). It is very simple and doesn't look like what I had imagined I would like. I love the way I look in it. I also love the way it feels and like addie says, I didn't want to take it off and I keep putting it on when my fiance is not around.

Thinking about it as finding "the dress" is not the complete picture, it's "the dress that YOU look and feel amazing in".

I had that "moment" and wasn't even looking to have that moment because I was "just looking." I tried on dresses after finding the one that I loved but it didn't make me feel the same way. I just felt amazing in the one I chose. If you want something different- not sure how different you are talking... but one place I just learned that has wedding dresses is Anthropology. You won't find any ballgowns, but they have some pretty original dresses.

I agree with lolo that neither of those dresses are "unexpected." The ballgown is actually very typical and something I have seen a lot both by Allure and in the more pricey Pnina variety. While the Maggie dress is a typical modified a-line lace dress. Both are pretty dresses and it really comes down to which one you feel the best in. Don't try to pick something solely because it is "unexpected" because unless you go for a bright color and a completely see-through lace dress except for the boob and crotch area, any dress you choose will not be "unexpected."

So go with your gut. If you put on a dress and have that "I don't want to take it off" or you have a huge silly smile on your face then you pretty much know that that dress is for you.

I did not cry or anything like that, but I just loved the way I looked from the start in the dress I chose and just kept comparing it to everything else I tried on. When I put it on again at the end of the appointment I just knew it was "my dress" and did not want to take it off (2nd appointment, first dress that day).

Both of your dresses are very pretty and very different so it will be a hard choice, but either way you will look beautiful! To help narrow down my style I kept thinking of the whole picture-- the venue, the time of year, the time of day, etc. I originally thought I wanted more of a simple, satin dress A line with some rouging... all I got right was the A line and ended up with lace and sparkle. I am now in love with lace dresses so I am of course drawn to your 2nd dress, but still like your first choice a lot.

Have you talked to your finace' at all about what he pictures? While I kept my dress a secret from H, I still asked him what sort of dresses he saw me in. We looked at some pictures and I let him say if he liked it or not. It does not always work, but it did help steer me in the right direction.

It's everything I claimed to hate. Non white - ha, far better color on me. Lace - gimme it NOW! Sparkly - Yes please. Trumpet - oh my, look at my awesome hourglass figure.

@behsco90 I am also a Libra and VERY Indecisive also! I went through the dress dilemma and was so frustrated. The first time I took My Godmom, Godsis and Close friend and got talked into the dress "I thought I was supposed to get, because It's soooo me" NOT! I regretted it and returned to try on more dresses and regretted a second dress. I then kept my other two Bridal appointments at other shops and went BY MYSELF. I knew that I needed to go at this alone and just try on dresses. Some pointers 1. I figured out what silhouette looked best on me, which was mermaid (Not what I imagined for myself) 2. I tried on dresses that may not have looked that great in pics or on the hanger but once tried on they looked AMAZING! 3. I picked 3 top dresses, went back to the store and chose the one out of the 3 that I LIKED MOST! 4. I only took my Godmom with me on my last visit. (My mom passed away 5 years ago so my Godmom is the next closest to me)

I say all this to say, I did have that moment and I kinda still thought about one of the other dresses but I stayed Confident in my decision. I wanted something different too! My dress is unexpected of what people may think I will wear which is a Ball Gown and I chose mermaid. I added a belt to my dress and that Made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Maybe you just need a little touch of something.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! I'm thinking that maybe neither of these are my dress, since I am hesitating with both of them. Hopefully I will be able to find that one dress that makes me not want to take it off!

I'm not a Libra, but it does take me a while to make decisions sometimes. (I mean I can certainly make snap decisions if necessary, but who wants to make a snap decision on a wedding dress if they don't have to?) I have finally settled on my dress and plan to order it this weekend. I tried on many dresses and found a specific silhouette that was most flattering for my figure. Every dress I loved (and that my companions loved) was approximately the same shape. From there I tried my favorites on back to back (as much as possible - one was at a different salon) and tried to think about which one made me feel more beautiful and felt more like "me" or like how I wanted to feel that day. I then went home and thought about it for a few weeks. I certainly never had a crying moment or a "feeling" that just said which dress was the right one. Instead I loved several dresses and slowly eliminated them until I found my favorite one. I honestly think I could be happy getting married in any number of dresses, but one made me feel beautiful and unique and very "me". So take your time, try looking at other stores, and give yourself room to make a decision.

Dresses, ugh. I had 3(!). One I bought almost immediately after getting engaged. Then I had regret, and started browsing preownedweddingdresses.com and found a Sottero & Midgely that I fell in love with and bought. Then a local salon had giveaways for military brides where they were giving samples away for free. FI took me there, and the salon was SO EXCITED to give these gowns away that I ended up taking one of those home as well. Well, turns out I really like the Sottero & Midgely the best, so I ended up donating the other 2 gowns to 2 different charities (one to a military bride organization, the other to a place that sells them to brides on a tiny budget). I'm done looking - the wedding is just under 6 months away now and I'm set on this last gown, but it can be such a hard decision to make.

That being said - I like the second dress you posted better.

I am a Gemini, not a Libra, but still incredibly indecisive.

I actually had several dresses that I thought were 'the one' because I kept comparing everything to them -- until the next 'one'. I did have kind of a moment with my dress, but not at first. When I first put it on it was kind of just...oh this is really beautiful just like the last 10 dresses. The consultant told me to walk past the mirrors so I could see how it moved behind me as I walked down the aisle. That was the point when I started crying.

Another thing that was a giveaway for me was when my mother and bridal party started saying things like, "Well, but this one doesn't have the lace all the way to the edge which was your favorite part on all the other dresses and which you said was a must" and etc. and my response was "....You know, I don't think I actually mind that that's missing."

Going off what a couple people have said finding the right shape is the first step. Most stores will tell you that too - you can always find a dress with more or less bling once you find the right shape. I think it's easy to get distracted by the details but you want to settle on the right shape, and then maybe also the right fabric and go from there.

The dress I ended up choosing is actually the first dress I tried on, and I tried it on thinking I would be ruling it out. When I walked out in it my mother asked me, "What's wrong with it?" And my answer surprised me, "Nothing!" I loved it. I tried on other dresses but I kept going back to the first. I think one of the most important factors for me was that the dress was comfortable, I am confident that I will enjoy wearing it on my wedding day.

That Allure ball gown was the first gown I ever tried on and I loved it because it looked like a Pnina Tornai dress I had seen and loved on Say Yes to the Dress.

However, I ended up with an Allure fit and flare that was on 50% off the sample and could no longer be ordered. I still felt like I wanted to continue trying on dresses because it was fun, but I knew if I left the shop that day without that gown and went back later to find out it was gone that I would be devastated. So my mom bought it for me and I have had no regrets whatsoever.
