I applied to "Cleaning for a Reason" to have a local cleaning service assist me with housekeeping while I am recovering from cancer. There were about 6 local companies that signed up with the organization, so I had my fingers crossed. I just got an e-mail that no one could take on my request :( I haven't asked for any outside help or support during any of this, even with my DH being out of state. 

The good news is that I'm slowly getting energy back. I had a set back over the weekend with my steroid taper, but it's starting to resolve.

    Boo! I'm sorry Jells, that's a major bummer. :( Will they keep you on the waiting list for when someone does become available, or do you have to keep applying?

    I'm sorry to hear that. Have you considered may be trying to hire a responsible local college student to help? You can get them for much cheaper than a normal house cleaning service.

    @lolo883- they told me to apply again in a few months. I may not be in AZ at that point, so we'll see.

    @RebeccaFlower- I can definitely swing hiring someone, but I figured these companies know the precautions that need to be taken when dealing with cancer patients. So, I hesitate to bring someone in that has never been around someone with cancer. Oddly enough, DH brought a cold home from TX this weekend. I was freaking out, but I didn't get it. So, that is a good sign that things are on the mend and I can be around more people.

    What about asking who these companies are so you can contact them directly? Ask if they have experience with being around cancers patients and understand not to send anyone sick or with a sick family member, precautions to take, etc. even if you would hire them directly.

    That is my next step I suppose. I am going to ask DH for it as my b-day present (b-day is next Friday!!)

    Aw, I'm in NM so if you lived just a few hours closer I could come clean! I was fortunate that DH was home enough to do all out cleaning and the litter box during chemo and it was a huge relief to have him around. But yeah, I'd also ask the company. I might also ask the social worker at the hospital or cancer center if there are any other resources out there. It sucks when everyone constantly tells you to ask for help with "anything you need" and then the one time you ask you get turned down :(

    I know I'm not supposed to do the litter box, but with DH gone, I had no choice. You should see me "gear up" for it. I have gloves, a heavy duty mask, I put on shoes so I don't step on anything, and I hold the scooper in my gloves with a clorox wipe. When I'm done, I scrub my hands and arms with anti microbial soap.
