Bridal bouquet vs bridesmaids bouquet

I am doing a DIY wedding while trying to keep is elegant and classy lol. My colors are plum and ivory. Im trying to figure out how to do the bouquets and which flowers I need to buy but Im having a hard time figuring it out. How do I differentiate them? I want a little purple in mind and I dont want to overwhelm them with purple since thats the color of their dresses. This is what my centerpiece looks like and this is the kind of bouquet I want for me but maybe with a few purple flowers? Any suggestions on what to do for the bridesmaids?

Re: Bridal bouquet vs bridesmaids bouquet

  • OK, I really love the two photos, especially the pine cone.  Do the bridesmaids have to carry full bouquets?  What if they each held on long-stem calla lily draped on an arm?
  • Im not a fan of lillies lol. I think I would like them to just have a small bouquet.
  • I love the second photo (that's your centerpiece right?).  I'd probably try to copy the size and color, etc of the centerpiece for the girls bouquets.  I think the greenery and few ivory flowers will give you a great contrast to their purple dresses!.  I would just make yours a little bigger, with more plum than ivory!
  • If you want to differentiate them you could:

    - use purple ribbon to tie the stems on theirs and ivory ribbon on yours
    - make your bouquet mostly ivory with a few plum and theirs mostly plum with a few ivory
    - make yours a little bigger than theirs
    - use different flowers in theirs
    - make yours a cascade bouquet and theirs normal
    - use an accent color in yours, like gold (or something that's part of your color scheme)

  • My bridesmaids had the same bouquet as I did, except mine was bigger. The only other difference was I had some open roses in my bouquet while the BMs only had rose buds. It all looked great in photos. We DIY the bouquets too.
  • We are DYIing our flowers as well - next Friday! We're going to do the BM flowers the same as mine - but smaller and with different ribbon around the base.

We're order roses - ALL roses! Just TONS of roses! Yeah...roses...
  • Our bouquets were all primarily the same flowers, though mine added garden roses. Mine was wrapped in ivory double-face satin and theirs had a sheer ribbon wrap. All of them were colorful. For my sister's wedding, we carried white hydrangeas and she carried blue, so they each contrasted nicely with our dresses.

Keep in mind though... they don't really need to be differentiated. Everyone will know who the bride is even if all your bouquets are identical!

Be aware that if you order roses online they will have TONS of thorns you'll need to cut off! I didn't DIY mine but I did DIY the centerpieces and those thorns were brutal.

You can see the size difference between mine and theirs:

  • (Lolo, we ordered many of the same flowers. Peach roses, seeded eucalyptus, dusty miller.)

We made my daughter's bouquet primarily cream and white, with peach accents, and the bridesmaids peaches and corals with cream.

And yes, prepare to spend lots of time prepping- stripping off thorns and guard petals. Hours.

  • I went for slightly smaller ones for the bridesmaids compared to my bridal bouquet.

They looked really nice and the colours 'popped' perfectly but you could tell the bridal bouquet from the bridesmaids because it was bigger and had a slight 'tail' down the front.

I always think giving them tiny bouquets makes bridesmaids look a bit awkward....?!
