We picked our florist the other day. She gave us a great quote. Yay.

But we were also ready to book a videographer. He shot FI's cousin's wedding... he was a friend of one of her friends who used to work in tv/ movies in LA and recently moved back to the east coast. I reached out to him to shoot our wedding (RAW footage, so FI's brother could edit for us, for $1200.) I thought it was pretty set, I was just waiting for him to send us his contract. He emailed me today saying a friend just asked him to shoot his wedding and it's on my wedding date, so he can't do ours anymore. ARGHHHHHHHHH.

I emailed back asking if he had any contacts or recommendations for me. I'm so frustrated. I just want someone who knows what they are doing to shoot our wedding for $1500 or less and give us the RAW footage. We'll probably have to get FI's brother to find a friend for us (the last friend he recommended to FI's cousin ended up flaking out on her, so I'm hesitant to do this... maybe his other friends are flakey too), or I'll ask an artist friend of mine that just got into video art... though she is definitely not as experienced as this guy was. And then I guess I invite her husband and baby (well, the baby will be a toddler by then) to teh wedding as well? Or do I just hire her and not invite her family? Even though she's a friend? But she might not want to leave them for a whole weekend...

RARRRRRRRR. This all sucks.

Re: WR: ARGHHHHH

  • I had a few friends who do wedding stuff- a friend who DJ's and a friend who is a wedding planner.  I did not even consider hiring them I didn't want friendors.  Id didn't want the lines of friendship and wedding vendor to get blurred.  I also wanted real professional vendors who did photography, flowers, planning as full time job. That was just my though on the subject.

  • Do you have a photographer?  If so, I would ask him/her for a recommendation for a videographer.

  • Your venue may also have recommendations. I know that requires doing additional research as far as finding someone within your price point and other requirements...but at least you can ask. I'm with @peaseblossom55 It's a tough position to be in when you hire a friend as a vendor and I'd have a hard time keeping the professional line in place while also keeping our friendship separate. I guess it depends on how comfortable you feel with that situation. For the sake of a friendship, I'd let your videographer friend bring her H and child to the wedding if she asks and if you were to choose to hire her.

  • What part of the country are you located in, lilack?

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Yeah, I'd prefer not to go down the friendor route either. I'm definitely exploring other options. I emailed a bunch of videographers I had previously bookmarked... Maybe I'll end up upping the budget there? Something to think about. I also emailed my photographer to see if she has any thoughts. Thanks for listening to my vent guys! I'm sure it will work out eventually.

    Oh!
My venue did have two recommendations but they were both... cheesy? And not that inexpensive.

@cu97tiger I live in central CT, but the wedding will be in Western CT, which is where both my Fiance and I grew up (the wedding is in the town in between where he grew up and where I did. Our parents are thrilled we're not making them travel.)
