Re: Seating Chart Organized by name or table?

  • Do you want to look for your name through lists of tables 1 through 20 only to realize you're at table 20?  Definitely by name.
  • Yeah,I agree with mlg78 and you can organized names lised alphabetically.
  • It would be a huge cluster fuck to set them up by table.

  • I have been to a few weddings that did it by table.  I did mine by table (only had 12 tables).  The most time I have spent in front of a chart looking for my name when it was done by table was like 30 seconds.  As long as you don't have 500 tables, doing it by table really isn't that much of a cluster.  I would suggest having 2 charts just so that all of your guests aren't huddled around one all at the same time.

@Maggie0829 would you also suggest two charts if we do the by name option? Just two of the same kind? So people don't have to wait in line? We are planning for 20 tables.

Honestly most the weddings I have been to I was in the bridal party or there were just escort cards. It's new to me the seating chart by name, so this is why I ask. We are planning for 20 tables, so I see how by name would be beneficial for our guests. Thank you.
  • @futuremrsog15 - I would suggest two charts either way, especially if you are having a larger wedding.  People typically enter the reception, drop their cards/gifts off, grab their escort card/look at the chart and then head to the bar.  So you don't want like 100 people all crowded around one chart at once.

Okay, thank you! I would have never thought of it that way.
  • I've honestly never even seen a seating chart at all the weddings I've been to. Just escort cards lined up alphabetically on one long table.

I've never been to a wedding where it's arranged by table number...and escort cards are arranged by last name so it goes back to arranging by name again.
  • I've only been to weddings with escort cards, arranged alphabetically, no charts.

  • I've been to only one wedding that had a seating chart instead of escort cards, but it was only about 12 tables. It worked fine because the chart was huge, and easy to read.

Just be super sure the writing is really BIG and clear so that people can find their names from a few feet back (so several people can stare at the chart and find their name at a time). Make sure the colors contrast too - white on black, or black on white.
