Anyone have a CamelBak?

I figured out what to get my MoH - a Camelbak! She's a hiker who tends to run out of water. Problem is, I don't know what parts she needs. She loves her backpack so much she had it repaired when it fell apart rather than replace it, so getting her one of the built-in systems wouldn't be quite right. Can anyone help me with what parts I need to get her?

And would the All Clear system (link3) perhaps be better for someone like her? I'm not a hiker, so I'm out of my league. Thanks in advance!

Re: Anyone have a CamelBak?

  • What type of backpack does she have? I use the antidote reservoir (I have two different sizes depending on how long the hike will be), as long as her backpack has a space for it and a hole for the hose to come out that should be all you need to get.

    That water bottle is pretty sweet, especially if she does a lot of hiking around water. It's pretty pointless if there aren't usually lakes or rivers on her hikes.  Also, if she backpacks I would be worried about the weight as the reviews say it's fairly heavy.

  • I've always bought the built in systems/backpacks.  I know when I've had to replace the 'reservoir bladder' I just bought the size I needed.  From the site, I like the stowaway because that might help the water stay cool, help the bottle stand up in the bag (since I'm guessing there's not an interior pocket for it), and help against any punctures (not that the 'reservoir bladders' are easy to puncture) -- the unbottle probably would work as well.

  • @bethsmiles, she has a Jansport backpack - a small one too, as I recall. Usually there are lakes on her hikes. I'll see if I can get ahold of some of her hiking pals (she's really not local to me right now) and find out what she's carrying.

    @dignity100, thanks for the help!
  • I also have the antidote reservoir. A lot of packs now are built so you can add in one of the bladders without having to buy it with a backpack. I'd agree with seeing if a friend of hers can help!

    They are so handy for hiking. So much easier to drink on the go instead of a bottle that adds weight to the pack on its own.
