Favors?

A friend of mine asked me what I was doing for favors, and when I told her I wasn't planning on doing them at all she expressed concern. I really didn't think it mattered since I am forgoing the more traditional things like toasts, tosses, etc, but she said that favors are a nice present for the guests. Is it necessary? It is bad etiquette not to have them?

Re: Favors?

  • We aren't having any.
  • I don't think people will care either way.  If you want something cheap and easy though, we did koozies since most of our friends are partiers, and we still see people randomly using them when we go out, so at least they get their use beyond the day of.

  • I thought about koozies, but in the end, we aren't having a traditional wedding.  We are hosting 2 meals, and we don't feel like packing extra stuff to fly to Vegas.  We have partiers too, and quite frankly most of them may be too drunk to even notice what we do provide.  I mean, it is Vegas.
  • We're doing a "welcome bag" with snacks, water, map, and koozies.  Nothing at the reception though... well, a photobooth... so that's part of the favors too I guess.

That's exactly what I was thinking also! Basically everyone attending ours likes to drink, and will be doing so throughout the reception and then on the DDB after.
  • We are doing lottery tickets and then we donated $1000 to a charity very close to us (we will be letting people know we are donating in lieu of favors).

  • I don't find favors necessary in general (Although we did them for our destination wedding- wine stoppers were easy and small enough).

But I think Welcome Bags are ideal when everyone has had to travel to attend the wedding. I don't think most people will miss a favor on the day of the ceremony but something thoughtful when they first arrive will be noticed and appreciated.

  • We just went to a wedding that gave us favors (key chains of the eiffel tower) and I left mine there as I didn't want it. She ended up with TONS after the wedding because so many people left them.

  • We were going to do welcome bags and favors. Then, someone on here was talking about doing in room amenities like chocolate covered strawberries and so we decided to do that instead. I think it's a wow moment to have something waiting in your room like that. It'll be pricey though

    I like that idea!

  • @rosebubbly How are you getting them into their rooms? How will you know which room they will be in?

  • My guess is she is doing it in her blocks and having the hotel do it.
  • I'm going to order through in room dining or the concierge. I think it'll be around 25-30 per room.

  • We are going to make some goody bags too, but I am going to contact our hotel and ask if it is okay to have it shipped to us instead of bringing it along. Going to print out maps, put some chocolates and fake poker chips in and some tissue as well (for us crying types lol).
