Decor when there's no head table?

Hi everyone,

For my reception we are not doing a head table. We are planning on sitting with our siblings and their partners, and seating our bridal party appropriately (with their partners and friends - ie my bridesmaid who is my best friend from university will be sitting with her husband and our university friends).

So, my question is how do I go about with decor? We are getting married in a golf club and the banquet room has large windows along 2 of the 4 walls (it's a large square room). I feel like the room will look really plain without any decor, but I want to be able to see out the windows onto the golf course and the room overall is really nice with beautiful chandeliers. I was initially thinking about having a backdrop but I don't know where I would put it!

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome :) Thanks!

  • The head table doesn't really add much to the decor anyway. Your linens and centerpieces do that.

  • I don't see how the two are related? What does the head table have to do with the decor? We're also not having a head table--we're sitting with some friends, and everyone is just sitting at regular tables. We have table cloths, nice chairs, center pieces, cute table number, and are using votive candle holders as escort cards. That's basically our decor.

Ditto PPs.  Here are some pictures of wedding receptions:

  • Our venue sounds similar to yours and on top of having centerpieces, we're also putting led candles on the window sills and I'll probably jazz up the bars a bit with candles too (we've got a bit of a candle theme going).
  • we didn't have a HT either.  Our table looked just like every other table.

Like others, I do not understand what the issue is?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Not really issue, but I guess I should have clarified that I really wanted a backdrop!

Yes I guess you're right, the linens and centerpieces will be the decor. When I go back to the venue I'll bring a sample and see how it looks.

    Thanks!

What did you want to backup? Are you seated with your backs to a plain wall?

If you're looking for a focal point, you could highlight your cake table or dance floor with some uplighting or wall decor behind them.

  • We are likely having a reception in a similar style banquet hall and I love the idea of the candles on the window sills :) Thanks, all!

  • Centerpieces? Uplighting, possibly? That pretty much is your decor!

I agree...you may want to consider doing uplighting....We had it at our reception and it made our venue look amazing!  It really added that "something special" we were looking for!

We used Amplified Event Lighting. I will put their website below for you.

They were super to work with and we were happy that we did the uplighting as we had decor worries also!

    Good Luck!  :)
  • I vote for uplighting, too!
