I am drained (bring on the cute gifs)

So last week I find out my bosses are retiring and closing the store. H will not find out if he's gotten into a PhD program til Feb/March and I will be out of a job by the end of January. This is the best job I've ever had, not because of the money but all the little details like not having to work nights or Sundays and bosses that will do things like buy you lunch at random.

And now, today. Ugh. My papaw was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and just had his first chemo treatment. He was relatively pretty healthy just around a month ago. Yesterday morning all his vitals plummeted and he was taken to the hospital. This afternoon they called all the family in. My bosses immediately let me leave and about 2 hours after I got there his last sibling arrived and they turned off his IVs. I had never had to watch someone die before today. It sucked. I have been told not to come to work tomorrow. I might go anyway for the sake of keeping busy.

  • So sorry. It is seriously shaking to see someone you love die. Huge hugs.
  • Thanks, @ohannabelle. I'm so hugged out, lol. Half my family and a significant portion of the church were in that room today.

  • Just want to echo the PPs in thoughts and love for you and your family. My Grandfather, my father's father died of pancreatic cancer as well. From what I've learned (granted it was mid 90s at the time), it's a very fast moving and deadly cancer.

I am very sorry for the pain and suffering all of you are experiencing.

Oh wow, this was my dad's dad as well. It's just so bizarre to me though that he declined so fast. The doctor had said he had perhaps a year so I was just not expecting it to be over so suddenly.

I was very young at the time - 12 or 14, I can't remember but my grandfather wrote a letter to my father after his diagnosis which he knew was terminal, expressing that he was grateful that he knew he was dying slowly and had time to reflect on what a wonderful life he had. There are blessings in everything, you know?

Thank you for sharing what you are going through with us so we can support you.
  • Thoughts and prayers for you and your family during thus difficult time!
